DR George, thanks for posting the picture of the b&w Wait Until Dark.

For my eyes, "live" b&w just doesn't quite work. There's too much color in real life, what with our own flesh tones, the colors inherent in lighting, etc., and the illusion is never complete.

....

I saw a summer stock production of City of Angels in the early 2000s and that was done really well.  The changes from color to b&w and back were done very quickly and really cool.

I have been involved with two "monochrome" productions, a conceit that thrives in university and amateur productions, but I find them ridiculous since (a), a DR ChasSmith pointed out, life is too full of color and (b) the scenery, costumes and props may be in shades of black, white, and gray, but what the fat hell do you do about skin tones?

I've only seen it work once: the Broadway production of The City of Angels.

And I also love the score. ;D

I don't see a photo.  Where is it?

It was the last post of yesterday's posts before BK locked the day.

This morning I've got to go down to the road and see if I can chip away and clear any of the massive snow piled up around the mailboxes. Two of us whose mailboxes are on the same pole (I'll take a picture) are not getting mail delivered because the USPS driver can longer reach the boxes from across the snow bank.

Anyone got a flame thrower I can borrow?

Oh no!

Fortunately, I was just told that someone did chip away at it and it looks like the mailboxes are reachable from the USPS truck now.

Happy to hear that, but sad that I didn't get the picture of it!  :)

Whew!

Nathan came home for something earlier and told me someone had knocked a bunch of the snow away from the mailboxes, but they pushed all the debris into the entrance of our driveway. So, one problem solved, another created. I went down with a shovel and spent about half an hour shovel-plowing it out of the way as best I could. I didn't get a "before" picture of the mailboxes, but you probably imagine from this...

Well, never mind.

It's a beautiful day here. I took a nice long walk with my camera. I haven't taken my camera for a walk in a long time.

I saw that very blue photo, plus it looks nothing like what I think Wait Until Dark should look like.

George, you really should watch the movie.

Great, mailboxes cleared yet your driveway clear was more work than the mailbox would have been.

In scanning the programs for my college musicals, I discovered that I was in my first show there with my third cousin! He was a senior, playing a villager in Fiddler on the Roof, while I was a freshman in the pit playing second trumpet. We didn't know we were distantly related back then.

In my last show with that group, The Threepenny Opera, we got a rave review from the college paper. A year later, Opera Company of Boston performed it. The same reviewer panned that production and said ours was much better! Given the simultaneous pan from The Boston Globe, I suspect he was right.
