Well, dear readers, yesterday was quite a fun day, actually, even though I only got about six and a half hours of sleep again – up at six for an hour or so, then back to bed at seven or so and up again at ten. Once up, I sent the twenty cover options to Muse Margaret. She called me about fifteen minutes later with the three she liked – one of which was one of the ones I liked, in fact, the one I liked best. We talked about each, then decided on number 10, my favorite. The font used for the title treatment was cursive and I’ve never really cared for cursive as a title treatment, so Margaret and I chose four other fonts to see what they’d look like. And I asked him to put a little red in one place because, as mentioned, that color plays an important role in the book. Doug then did four versions of that cover with some red and the different fonts. And a funny thing happened on the way to those little changes – they hurt the design. Sometimes you just don’t know that until you see it. The original way he did it, even with the cursive, just worked, which is why my eye kept going to it. Everything about it worked once you saw it with these other versions. I felt all the other fonts, while not bad on their own, made the book seem like was from a completely different genre, so that was a no-go. And the red just ruined the very cool and correct colors as he had them. So, Margaret felt exactly the same, I told Doug to go with his original version, and we have our book cover and I really love it, even the title treatment, because after thinking about it, its placement and style works once you think about the book in a certain way – it makes sense then. Not sure when I’ll reveal it – maybe in a week or two, after the proofing is done. So, that was a fun and creative morning. I had two hot dogs for food, and they were great. Oh, and I finished proofing and sent the book to my two real proofers. So, all that was done, which meant I had the rest of the afternoon to mine own self. I watched a few irritating YouTube videos and then dozed off for ninety minutes or so. Then I showered and then moseyed on over to the theater. We had a light house again – about thirty-five, but we’re fighting the Olympics, of course. I only stayed through the second musical number. Not as boisterous an audience as Friday night, but they laughed in the first scene, and not all audiences are vocal. Once back home, I had some red beans and rice for food – very good. I had a nice telephonic conversation with dear reader Jeanne, who’s a little under the weather. And here we are.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven and out the door by twelve-thirty. We have about fifty on the books for the matinee, not bad considering it’s Super Tidy Bowl Sundae. And we always get walk-ins. I’ll probably stay for the show, then go out for a proper meal. Then I’ll come home and watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, I have a phone interview with an author who’s doing a book about Doris Day, so he asked if I had some stories, and I certainly have two fun ones I can tell him. Mostly this week, I need to rest up from this crazy past few weeks, we’ve set the schedule for the recording session, so that’s done, and I have stuff that needs doing and therefore I must do it. We’re also putting two changes into The Altruist – cutting an act two reprise that interrupts the flow of the show, and cutting a little dialogue session that’s never landed correctly, because it makes the audience uncomfortable and, in my opinion, is out of character for the person speaking it. Then we play week five of our six=week run.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven and out the door by twelve-thirty, I’ll see the matinee, go out for a proper meal, and then come home and watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have settled on the book cover so quickly.
