Well... All cleaned, all packed (almost), and almost ready to head out...

DR elmore - I just found out that the fax machine my parents had here is just that - "had" - I can't seem to find it anywhere.  Sorry...  However, you can fax it to me at the theatre tomorrow.  I'll e-mail you the info later.

Well, I'm off...  I'll be bringing my iBook with me, so... Until Richmond...

Laters...

We baked Toll Housae Chocolate chip cookies from scratch yesterday... NOW I remember why I became so enamored with those Pillsbury Refrigerated cookie dough rolls!!

Gosh whata lot of work those cookies are!!
You're joking, ain'tcha?

OK, I can see it being a lot of work if you're doing all that stirring by hand.  That's what mixers are for.  Stand mixers are best, but hand-held models work pretty well these days and are not expensive in the least.

Me, I like to add a squirt of molasses to the dough, adding a richness to the flavor and also keeping the cookies moist for a longer time.

On another, more frightening note - A friend of mine gave me a couple of clips from the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special as a Christmas gift. You haven't lived until you've seen Bea Arthur singing to Star Wars aliens or heard Carrie Fisher singing to a bunch of Wookies. What were they THINKING?!?!

Does anyone have any memory of this special airing??

Oh, my gosh yes, I have a vague recollection of it! LOL!

Almost everything that can be said about last night's Mattress has been said...

...except...

Did anyone else out there find the sets to be, well, claustrophobic?  Small?  Unnecessarily built to be shot from above, like a Busby Berkley dance number, only without his flair?

I remember the Carol Burnett as Winnefred versions (or, at least, the second edition) as being staged on a wide expanse.  These sets couldn't have been more cramped if they'd been filled with nothing but cheese for weeks and there wasn't any ExLax around.

That's my opinion, at least.

Der Brucer is in the kitchen ( :o) scrubbing away in the sink.  He's suggested that we could soak the country ham in the sink, that it would be perfectly safe.

I suggested that we not even try soaking it where Fletcher could get at it.

We'll be soaking it in a styrofoam container, down in the basement, which will be kept locked.

You really believe that thinking had anything to do with it's creation?

You've been hanging around this site for how long, and you're still this innocent?

Never change, DR Jason, never change.  The world needs more people like you.

Has Miss Purl seen the new STATE FAIR dvd with her television guest starring performance?

I would guess she would be getting some hefty royalties by year's end....in the tens of dollars.

As long as I'm posting links to interesting sites, I've stumbled upon this one as well.

Aren't the holidays fun???

Lime Meltaways are mixed and chilling in the fridge.  Need to hit the Safeway (that's a supermarket for those on the OTHER coast) for cream of tarter and milk.  I don't hold much hope for the Meltaways as I feel the batter is a bit tart, but maybe with the dusting of powdered sugar they will shape up.

... Need to hit the Safeway (that's a supermarket for those on the OTHER coast) ...
Safeway is national.  They just opened a store across the highway from where I work.  It hasn't really made an impact on our customer-base; most of the time their parking lot is quite empty.  Having been inside, what der B and I found mirrors the comments our customers have been making: the store is uninviting, with aisles that seem too narrow and dark.  The prices are no better than ours, and often higher.

The worst comment one of our customers has made about the store is that she works there...and hasn't been paid in four weeks!  Seems someone didn't input her data into the computer correctly, and they're very slow in correcting it.  Worse, they haven't been covering her pay with advances.  I find this downright embarrassing.  When I started at my store, there was a similar computer input glitch on my data.  My management was very sympathetic/concerned with the situation, and made sure I was covered until the glitch could be corrected.

The odds of my moving across the highway to work range from slim to nothing.

Had a nice lunch and then shopping at some computer stores. I wasn't in the market for anything, but my friend was, and I tagged along. Always fun to see the new gizmos.

Watched the remainder of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD this afternoon. I find it funny that I've seen it so many times now and am so familiar with it that I start to cry even before those golden moments happen. I just know they're coming and start to tear up.

Since it was too late to start any other movie, I just watched some of the special features on the first MOCKINGBIRD disc. Enjoyed Mary Badham's remembrances.

Is there any way you could slip a few through one of the USB slots and somehow transmit them to the East Coast right now? I didn't have any dessert this afternoon, and they sound mouthwatering.

Why, oh WHY is Christmas shopping so tedious/stressful/burden-like/hard/long/whatever else you may come up with?

24 hours per day is NOT cutting it for me, when I have to spend 7 of them stuck inside a building, and 6 of them unconscious.

If anyone has any extra time that they'd like to dole out, I am a ready recipient right now. Or if anyone would like to write an essay analyzing any of the following, it would be most helpful:

The comedy on pages 10-15 in The Importance of being Earnest
Hungary
Sodomy in America
TLO
Abortion
US Government Torture
How my grandparents affect my material life (this must be in French, however, and I assume it would be helpful to know my grandparents.)

Yeah.

[move=RIGHT,scroll,6,transparent,100%]HAPPY BELATED NATAL DAY TO PENNY O![/move]

And has anyone checked out our calendar?

It appears that Dan-theMan is 47, but Penny O is only 1 year old!

A lot of talent in that tot.  But such language in her novel for a toddler!

And so good to see dear Swishy Sarah again!

I have a vague memory of Maury Yeston coming into the BMI workshop some time around '77 or '78 and playing songs for "The Star Wars Christmas Album", which he had been contracted to write.

All I really remember is "What Do You Get a Wookie for Christmas", and the punch-line was "a comb".

I saw the ratings for ONCE UPON A MATTRESS last night. Had an audience of about 8.4 million, considerably less that audiences for ANNIE, CINDERELLA, and GYPSY. About the same as THE MUSIC MAN and more than BYE BYE BIRDIE.
