Muffins today are way too big. They used to be the size of small cupcakes. Now they're just mountains of more stuff I don't want.

TOD: Plain croissant or pain au chocolat for me, please. I'm not as big a muffin fan, but a good blueberry or chocolate muffin can be nice on occasion.

I love blueberries, and I love the IDEA of blueberry muffins. I just don't like the execution.

I say Tristan und Isolde at San Francisco Opera last night. Fabulous singing, playing, and conducting, but the direction wasn't very good. In the second act you have a half hour of some of the sexiest music ever written, yet there's no passion and minimal desire on the stage. They spend most of their duet in the friend zone. Which means there's not much at stake for our title characters, so the character I wound up caring the most about was King Marke.

That's why I specified good blueberry muffins! With really good blueberries and a really good muffin bake.

I think the burning question of the day, unless I missed it, is:

(1) What kind of donuts did they deliver to BK, and (2) how many are left?

Since Act II's Tristan staging took me out of the story, the staging errors in Act III were even more noticeable. Like when one character killed another by plunging his sword into the set a very visible two feet away from the character. I guess it must have startled him to death.

Then in Act III when King Marke says, "They're all dead," his four soldiers all simultaneously realize, "Oh! There's nobody left to kill!" and synchronously put away their swords. I burst out laughing together with the guy sitting next to me, but that's not supposed to be a laugh line.

Sorry for venting, but it bugs me when big-budget opera companies do things that would never make it past rehearsal in our low-budget opera company.

Fortunately the music making was absolutely exquisite. We have a real gem of a music director in Eun Sun Kim and the orchestra played superbly. And singers like Simon O'Neill and Anja Kampe are treasures, but the whole cast was fabulous.

I received some sad news yesterday , my cousins wife who was recovering nicely from some minor surgery had a sudden heart attack Halloween night and didn’t survive.

The whole family is in shock.

Oh, no!  My condolences to your family, Vixmom. :(
