The show was fun, ended around 6:40. I chatted with the performers a little and then walked back to Penn.

I arrived at 7:11 and saw my train was scheduled for 7:29.

So I hung out and popped into the train and got a nice seat on the short side if the car

I’ve never pinpointed precisely where I was when the first plane hit. I was on the F train coming in to the office on 40th and Lex from Park Slope. I had to transfer to the 4, 5, or 6 at Broadway-Lafayette. In those days the only way to make that transfer was to come above ground and cross a street and walk back down and use the metrocard again. I don’t know if in my minute above ground, it had already happened. I sort of recall that minute and I can convince myself there was a weird vibe in the air. But that may be just imagination, creating that feeling. Most likely I was underground in southern Manhattan at the time it happened.

What I do know is I continued on the train up to Grand Central and walked above ground and towards my office and as I headed in, I heard the distinct words “plane crash” from someone on the street.

I got on the elevator and when I went to step off on my floor, my friend and coworker was there and he said, “C’mon we’re going up to the 9th floor (reception) to see what’s going on.” And now I knew a plane had hit the tower and like most people, figured a small plane, a terrible accident. We got off on 9, and everyone was gathered around the TVs in reception. And the 2nd plane hit like just as we entered the room.
