Back from our second performance - couldn't believe it - they rarely have more than twenty audience members for these staged reading things, but tonight we had seventy and they were a wonderful audience. Actors did well and everything went pretty smoothly. Lots of laughs. It's amazing that any of it works with actors having to be glued to their scripts, but the jokes are funny and they pretty much land, but it will be so much better with a proper rehearsal period where we can hone everything and they can actually play off each other. Plus, I have some gags in mind that will really help the top of the play.

We discovered the Secret of Costco. Go when you have an appointment elsewhere in a half hour, leaving yourself less than 20 minutes to shop. It’s amazing how laser-focused and efficient you can be. We only got like 10 things we hadn’t planned on.

Yikes! Does your Costco have the self-checkout aisles? Only cards can be used at those. The Tumwater Costco has them and it's quite helpful...except when people go through with carts filled with a lot of stuff. THAT takes up time there.

I had to give the Mrs a hard time for choosing that line because she always feels I choose the wrong lines at the border. “If you’d have picked that line, we’d be three cars ahead,” etc.

We considered it, but in our haste didn’t want to try self checkout there for the first time. We had wine and stuff that might have complicated things.

Whatever this dude says after talking to Spielberg et al, he’s clearly going to screw up TCM. It really needs no change. It was eclectic in approach, not slavish to “the classics” though you could see them, of course. It was a public resource, really, and shouldn’t be messed around with by a hotshot with big ideas.

The thing about the Pogue guy’s viral CBS morning report about the submersible from a couple years ago is it’s actually poor journalism. Like the clues of the slipshod nature of the operation are all there and the guy kinda laughs it off while making Titanic movie jokes. It was clearly a case of tv access given to generate hype, and probably inspired a billionaire or two to sign up.
