DR Jeanne, about proofreading: I finished Julian Fellowes' novel Belgravia last night, and I wonder if he proofread it, someone else did, or didn't care. There are several incomplete sentences - which he does a lot - that left me wondering WTF is he saying, and on one page, the character of Jane Croft is referred to as Ellen Croft. On the other hand, the novel did answer several questions I had after watching the miniseries.

I read a book a few months ago, written by a well-known author. In one entire chapter, he used a different name for one of the main characters. It was, as if, they took a chapter from an earlier draft and stuck it into the published edition without even reading it.
