In July, my friend Kelly Peterson (Oscar’s widow), bred her three year old boxer, Lena. After an initial heartbreak, she ended up adopting one of the puppies. So, here is the official debut of eight-week old Tillie.
Sweet pup and nice photo. I am sorry about her heartbreak though confused as to why she would have to adopt one of her own puppies.
Am I miss-using the word adopt? She decided to bring Tillie home from the breader, after her pick of the litter died suddenly, just days before she was going to bring the puppy home. What should I have said instead of adopt
I thought her dog Lena was the mother of the litter, not the father, and home with your friend. Or, if Lena is the mother I gather her breeder has claim on the pups and took Lena while she had her babies.
Yes, Lena (the mother) stayed with the breeder until the puppies were weened (?). I think Kelly said seven weeks, but I am probably wrong. I don’t think the breeder had any claim to the puppies, but Kelly decided to take the one pup, Ella, but she died last week. The breeder talked Kelly into taking the other female, who became Tillie. Since Kelly brought the puppy home, I thought that was adoption.
