Does no one want to answer dear reader Hisaka's question about "segue"?  What language is it - French?

I changed the get-together to tomorrow morning, as I just didn't feel like breaking up the day with too much running around.

I am more than happy to report that the skies are completely and gloriously blue and the sun is shining for all its worth.

DRHisaka,  since I haven't reached the next page, I have no idea if anyone's answered the segue inquiry so I'll answer:  "Segue" is Italian, I believe, meaning to continue to the next piece without interruption.  I would guess from an etymological view, it's a member of the ur-word that derived "sequence."

Where's my Oxford English Dictionary when I need it?

I had thought about it, but we were walking everywhere and dragging dolls and purchases and by time we had walked from Times Square back to 55th & 6th the girls were dragging,  so I skipped it.

Have you seen it? If so, what did you think of it?    Speaking as one who did not see it, it seems like a waste of time, material and money to me, but then I may have been absolutely floored by its beauty and eloquence if I had bothered to drag my sorry tail up to the park....

I guess DR WFO, Vixmom and I are the only ones who use dictionaries.

What I've found is that SEQUE is from the Italian for "there follows," ultimately from Latin, sequi.  From which we also get the word SEQUEL.

ADDENDUM: And Ron.  Sorry, I hadn't gotten to your post when I posted.

SECOND ADDENDUM: Add Elmore!  Same guilt trip.

I wonder if we'll ever see George Clooney in a similar get-up?

DR vixmom, enjoy your CD's, it was my pleasure to share.

While we're talking about "segue" - which is often found in musical scores, DR Elmore, (or anyone else) could you shed some light on the intitals

Not to toot my own horn but I used a dictionary this very morning to answer Hisaka's other question on the meaning of Persnickity. I was perhaps a bit loquacious (see yesterday's Word of the Day) but I did answer her question, albeit in a rather long-winded manner.

May I vent?

The March 18 meeting in Cleveland, around which I made all my travel arrangements for the HHW gathering in NYC, has been rescheduled.  So, now I'm stuck with a nonrefundable plane ticket from CLE to LGA, when it would be much more convenient for me to have flown from Cincinnati.  Oh, well, guess I'll just have to have some good CD's to listen to on my (now) unnecessary drive to and from the Cleveland airport.

End of rant.

More obscure-ish musicals...

Don't know if y'all would consider this obscure, but HALLELUJAH I'M A BUM is an all-time favorite of mine. Frank Morgan is very funny in this. Jolson sings "I didn't mean to do it". Rodgers and Hart have a cameo. Yes, a great film.

Pogue's mention of Jack E. Leonard reminds me of a terrible musical that I enjoy, THE FAT SPY. I mean this is bad on every level except the 60s bizarro beach music. The band called the Wild Ones do some great tunes like "Everybody Do the Turtle", a good dance for when things get slow around here. The Wild Ones also provide the title cut for LORD LOVE A DUCK, so I would love a Wild Ones compilation if anyone's listening.

It doesn't get much weirder than THE GREAT GABBO with Erich von Stroheim hamming it up as an insane ventriloquist. This features some realy odd musical numbers that take place on a giant spider web. And the dummy sings a great song about a lollipop.

Finally, this movie is much maligned, but I think a lot of AT LONG LAST LOVE is actually pretty good, especially anything that involves Madeleine Kahn.

Poor you!! Is it a very far drive from where you live?  Isn't horrendous how businesses etc can expect you to change your life at the last minute.  I 'm sure if you had decided today that you weren't going to that meeting they would have had some harsh words about  your "late cancellation!"   You have my sympathy

Yes, he is, DR RON.

DR MATTH - Jo Ann Greer did indeed sing "A Perfect Love" for Junie in THE OPPOSITE SEX.  She also sang for Susan Kohner in IMITATION OF LIFE.....love that jazzy number in the sleazy nightclub - before she goes to LA to star at the Moulin Rouge.

Thanks for the info, DR JRand. Jo Ann did Rita Hayworth's vocals in PAL JOEY and AFFAIR IN TRINIDAD, too as well as Gloria Grahame's in THE BIG HEAT and a number of others. She was a busy gal behind the scenes.

...Unfortunately, the only other topic I know I can help clear up today is... there was indeed a bathroom off of Mike and Carol's bedroom.  I would presume there was probably one off Alice's room, but I don't think we ever knew this for sure.

I'm old enough to have been pre-Barbie. I had a Revlon doll which, like Barbie, had outfits you could buy, etc. You could also style her hair, etc.

Oh, yes, I was definitely a gay kid.
