I would prefer to sleep in, too, but I’ve got a busy day. After church, there’s a funeral for a friend’s husband who died from abdominal cancer, then I’m ushering for something. I remember the time, not the event.

Another late-ish start to the morning, which is always welcome. When this happens I get to enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee in the recliner while the boys wait “patiently” for their breakfast. They know it’s coming, so they aren’t as ornery as when they’re getting me up on a typical day (not necessarily in Dogpatch). But these two mornings they’ve let me sleep in.

And now I have to decide, DRs, whether to attend the closing matinee today of ONCE which a couple of friends are involved in. I never saw the movie or the stage version, and will be going in about as ignorant of it as is humanly possible. And the theater’s an hour away. Do I have the enthusiasm and energy for it today? No. But I think I need to take the opportunity.

So...it’s the first community theatre production in the country, at the beautiful Warner (note to vixmom: Ragtime), and it’s in the hands of a couple of our better director/music directors. The talent looks great and I’m in on a cast discount, so I guess it’s a no-brainer. This thing had flown under my radar, but I’ve got a very busy week ahead and I think I’d best get my ASS up there.

TCB - That is interesting. Still hoping for the best about 5th Avenue Theatre logic: so could it be they want to make sure that at those when they have a really hot ticket, they're not bought up by computer systems. And the system they put in place has to be there for all their shows.

Otherwise, it is confusing.

Their corporate culture has always seemed so people-friendly, certainly under Mr. Armstrong (who I guess is leaving after a long time).

We watched THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM last night, recorded from TCM.

I'd never seen it before.

Terrible print that badly needs to be restored, and watching a 3-camera Cinerama movie flat is certainly disconcerting.

The movie itself was just so-so, and the section featuring Terry-Thomas and Buddy Hackett was almost painful to watch.

ONCE was one of the most magical and moving musicals I have seen. The film's nice, but the show was a lesson in how to adapt a movie to stage.

Is this the production in Northport at the Engeman? My friend Douglas, who was in the reading of MOONSHINE & MISTLETOE at the York is in it.

I think you may enjoy Once more if you haven’t seen the movie.
