ASK BK #2

What program do you use to format your books on Kindle?

I have a company that formats them for eBooks - they use Mobi for Kindle.

And I am home from rehearsal.  It was nice to meet mew singers and to see old friends from various incarnations of Moonshine & Mistletoe.

Speaking of travel, our 50th high school reunion is on May 21st.  We will be in L.A. a few day prior and a few after.  Bruce, maybe you can introduce us to DR Jeanne.

DR GEORGE - Gretchen Cryer was the first wife of David Cryer - father of Jon - they met at DePauw University.

I did THE CRUCIBLE with David and his new wife.....of a couple of decades....back in 2012.  They were both very nice.

David was given an honorary degree of some kind by DePauw a few years ago....when he got up to speak he said:  "I am very nervous today, but not for the reason you might think.  My first wife is sitting beside my second wife in the front row......"

Britt Swanson Cryer was most excellent in the play and a joy to be with - she was a dancer who worked a lot with Agnes DeMille back in the 1950's -60's.

DR Jane, the Broadway matinees all ran too long for us to be sure that we could get to the airport in time and we're both too tired to walk a lot, so the movie today was just right.

Given the gate they're using for our departure, it's obvious LGA>DAY is not a priority flight...

Especially for me, since my book group is discussing the book at my house on April 20!

I just finished reading the book today at lunch!  I still haven't seen the movie. :-\

That's pretty cool.  Thanks for the info, Jrand!

Busy day.  Production meeting was very long but very fun.  Wasn't sure about the lighting guy but about thirty minutes in I think I "got" him and he "got" me and we were all laughing a lot.

Then went and picked up packages after a telephonic conversation.  Books are here but helper can't ship them until Friday, which is quite irritating - but they'll go out with some fun stuff.  Also arrived, new computer speakers.  I read about new Audio Engine speakers that just came out in December, like a week after I got mine.  These sounded like I'd like them a lot - first off, they have Bluetooth, should I need to use that, they're a tiny bit larger (but really tiny) than the A2s, but from the reviews I read I knew the sound was going to be more spacious - that was my one very minor complaint with the A2s, a certain muddiness in the mids and highs.  Before coming home, I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and some fries.

Once home, I unboxed books and began signing them.  Then I unhooked the A2s and set up the HD3s.  The set-up is really easy and I'm much happier with the wire that connects the two speakers - the A2s had wire that you had to put behind the doohickeys and the first time she of the Evil Eye dusted them, off came the wire.  These have banana plugs and can't come out, so that was a big plus.  Anyway got them hooked up, turned them on, and played the exact same track I'd been listening to on the A2s and holy moley - these are so beautiful and airy and true sounding - I love them already and these speakers require a forty to fifty hour break in period and will sound even better.  Very happy ears over here.

The really good news is I had someone salivating over the A2s and I sold them to him so these were, with my Amazon credits, virtually free.

I'm subbing on Keyboard 2 in a few performances of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR in April, and they seem to be following the style of the original "Brown Album"... which is fine with me because after all these years I still know that better than its various incarnations.  (They're just using five musicians.)  So I just put it on to listen, and while almost every bar was familiar, I was appalled at how unsatisfying a recording it is.  This is a flawless original pressing LP, but man, did I ever have a distorted memory of the sound.  I remembered there being a few edits/splices on it that would alarm a horse, but the overall sound is thin and shallow, especially when things get layered and complex.  So...

Asking BK or anyone who might know:  Before I go looking around, was this ever remastered in a good way?  If not, is it a candidate for a proper treatment?  Original booklet says 16 tracks...

Where is Superstar bring  performed , Chas?  Is this a show I coukd come to see?

Vixmom:  Waterbury, CT.  Seven Angels Theatre.  It would be the route you drove for Ragtime, but some 20 minutes shorter.  If you're interested I'll get you my dates.
