Uploading music and listening to Ormandy's seventies recording of the Sibelius 5th - I'd tried out his 70s recording of the first, which had such awful low, muffled sound I nuked it immediately. This one's better, but these 70s recordings by RCA are not a patch on the butt cheeks of the 60s Columbias. Of course, he never recorded the 5th for Columbia so this one is it on that one. Earlier I watched the Blu-ray of the Sibelius first symphony - that was fun as I enjoy seeing who's playing what in the orchestra. The sound is a bit washy for my taste (you get a close-up of the clarinet player playing the opening but the sound issuing forth is more like it's from the middle of the house. It's not bad, just not as detailed as I like - the performance itself and the conductor do a good job of it, but the more I hear the more I really think the Barbirolli set will end up being my favorite of the complete sets.
