And i am home from this Chekhov reading, it was depressing: the director, who claims to have Broadway credits and actually teaches voice and acting at one of the Manhattan colleges, is a complete and utter fraud. Charlotte was quite good and very funny in "The Engagement" and completely lost in "The Brute," a very funny piece for three actors, all of whom were in a different play. the maid Louka (it's supposed to be a male role!) was performing some Irish comedy and she was quite good, Charlotte seemed to think she was in something natural and missed the over-the-top melodrama, and the title character thought he was doing a Matthew Broderick role for Neil Simon instead of an Alan Arkin rowdy Russian. The final piece, sentimental drivel for two good actors, was pathetic performed by two mediocre ones. Asa for the other one act, "The Celebration," the less said, the better.
What i find sad is the number of incompetents working in show biz, and I'm so much more talented and unemployed. There. I said it.
