Congrats, DR Jenny.

Oh, and I have to say my choice of clothing when going to the theatre depends upon what I'm seeing.  The more "serious" the subject matter, the "better" I dress.

-Also, my seat location is also a factor.  The closer to the stage I am, the "better" I dress.  I actually do get a little self-conscious when I see a show - especially when there's someone in it I know.  I don't want to be spotted in the audience due to my level of dress.

-Did that make sense?

-I'm rambling....

I think I shall write a song entitled Undescended Testicles.

Undescended testicles
You did me wrong
Undescended testicles
And I can't wear a thong
I thought my testicles
Were my friend
But you'd think a friend
Would just go and descend

Undescended testicles
How cruel is fate
How I wish those testicles
Would descend like a crate
Then they'd be unending
In their endless descending
But my testicles just sit there
Like so much fish
Oh how I wish
I had descending testicles
Then I'd be happy at last
Happy and gay
Just me and my testicles
Descended all day
But no, I've got undescending testicles
Come what may.

So... Will that solo go to Paul or to Ryan when What If? comes back?  OR... Will it be my solo?!?!?!

Wasn't it Marcel Duchamp who painted Nude Undecending a Testicle?

OK...  I'm tired...

I actually went ahead and had a nice soak in the tub as soon as I got back from the show.  I just felt like the thing to do tonight.  Very relaxing.  *And I didn't have to run up my water bill! ;)  And since I do want to get up early-ish...

Off to the land of the Wussburgers...

Goodnight.

Dear DR Jenny: I have to admit, you've got an acting challenge ahead of you.  I'm having trouble thinking of you as asexual, somehow.  But I'm looking forward to you pulling it off.

Better start practicing with the wheelchair now, though!   8)

That is a truly brilliant song, Bruce.  It shall be my new theme song.

I'm looking forward to the challenge!  It's going to take an enormous amount of work, but I'm game!  I have to prove myself worthy of a potentially stupid casting decision.

I'm also looking forward to this role as an excuse to get fat!  "The Portly Sheridan Whiteside" indeed!

I'm not sure how much posting I'll be up to tomorrow.

Der B and I are going to a "Celebrity Chef's Beach Brunch," being held just south of Rehoboth in Dewey Beach, DE.  At least twenty area restaurants will be represented.  The whole thing is to benefit Meals on Wheels, Delaware (proving once again how cars are an important part of our society).

The festivities begin at eleven in the morning, and run until three or four in the afternoon.  There will be lots of food, and a silent auction...and lots of libations.

It's that last part that may put a damper in my posting tomorrow.  I hope not, but at least I'll not be posting happily.

On another note: Sorry, BK, but there are still no responses about Beef Wellington in the Los Angeles area at the other site I mentioned earlier.  Maybe LA's lack of a sense of history has done the dish in.  Or maybe the sixties aren't retro enough.

Flambe them.  Flambe them all to hell.

Hi, everyone!

I'm so, so, so sorry, I've been away for so long.  I'm listening to BK's Brent Barrett Sings Alan Jay Lerner Album and chatting with Jenny about all her wonderful news, and it occured to me that I really should stop by and say hello, even with all the time that's passed.

BK--I've been hearing all about "What If" and I'm thrilled that it's going so well!  I think it's a brilliant idea, and I'd love to hear some of the songs.

I've been doing okay.  Jenny's not the only one who's going to change genders for a show.  I get to play not one, but two men, in James Madison University's production of "1776."  I'm both Lewis Morris and Robert Livingston, and rehearsals have been fun so far.  We're doing "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" next semester, and I have my heart set on playing Puffer, although I probably won't get it.  Some of the girls at my school have AMAZING voices, and I don't know if I can compete.   Dr. Hart, the musical theatre department head, says he's going to work on Rupert Holmes to come see it!  So even if I don't get cast, that would be pretty exciting!

I'm also toying with the idea of directing.  I've been writing a lot lately (a lot of lyrics and musical theatre parodies), and want to do other things besides perform.  I'm currently working on a proposal of "A New Brain" for our Experimental Theatre.  I mean, it's a long shot that I'll get approved, as I've never directed in my LIFE, and I don't even have an MD or an accompanist yet...but Dr. Hart is 100% behind me on this, and I have a few tech people attached already, so who knows?

And yesterday I got a letter from Sondheim.  I had written him a long, gushing letter and I was thrilled to tears at hearing back.  Today I bought a frame for the letter.

I hope everything is well with everyone!  I miss you guys.  And I may not be able to post a great deal, but I intend to read the goings-on here more often.

I always still try to dress for the the theatre.  I've worn jeans before, but I usually wear a sport jacket and sometimes even a tie.   Sometime for the wavier shows, I'll go a little casual (and only did on the last time I went to WHAT IF...The other two times, I wore a jacket).  But there are events I still like to dress up for and the theatre is one of them.

The Celebrity/Memorabilia Show was interesting and fun today. I think the new space is better, but was not used particularly well.  They had enough space to widen the aisles more and they really should be able to tell who are going to be the big draw celebs and put them someplace where the traffic flow won't get jammed up.

June Wilkinson was in her usual flirtatious, funny  form.  William Wellman Jr. was next to her and they had a joint merchandising shrine to Macumba Love.  After Bruce left (and good company he was while there), my pal, Pat Skelton (he played Wally on All My Children back in the early eighties) and I went and had a couple of beers with the always gregarious and great Denny Miller (well, Pat and I had a couple of beers...Denny doesn't drink) and just spent most of the afternoon bumming about the show.  We also ran into the doyen of Musical Theatre Archivists, Myles Kreuger, and he told us all about his find of a dozen stills from the rare George M. Cohan film, The Phantom President.

My finds were a little less illustrious.  Several pieces of wonderful sheet music at two bucks a pop...Be Careful, It's My Heart ( Blue Skies version...not Holiday Inn version) ; Star Eyes; Lovely To Look At (the Astaire film version); Oh, You Nasty Man (from an Alice Faye film); and My Little Buckaroo.  I also got a CD of the Prince of Foxes score by alfred Newman which BK told me to snap up at the price it was being offered.

A note to all Playmates that were at the show...and were doing very little business...Guys don't want to come up to you and chat you up and ask for autographed photos when your greasy, glaring boyfriends are always hovering nearby (not that I wanted to buy anyway; but it was a phenomenon Pat and I observed when we visited the room...those who did not have boyfriends were on the phone or talking to the other girls and did not seem very invested in the traffic in the room, of which there was not a lot) I was talking to June about this and she said, "You never bring your boyfriend."  You have to maintain the illusion of accessibility.

The expense of the show has increased.  Fifteen dollar entry fee and then a six buck parking fee.  Which was always the drawback when the bookfair was there.  The restaurant is better than what used to be there.  All in all, it was a pleasant day.
