Good morning and a very Happy New Year to all!

Pork ribs (country style so no bones) and Sauerkraut are in the slow cooker for my family traditional first meal of the year.  I'll make mashed potatoes and bread rolls as well.

I did modify the recipe somewhat--I cut and added a green apple, an onion, some brown sugar and a quarter cup of beer to the Sauerkraut.

Do you know how hard it is to find a single can of beer to buy?  I have to pour the rest of it down the drain since I won't drink it.  I don't mind cooking with wine and other spirits but I can't stand the taste by itself.  Yuck.

Anyway, we will give it a try and see what we get.

What is everyone else having for their First meal?

Danise  neither the Vixter nor Vixdad will touch sauerkraut or anything tta has touched sauerkraut  but I think yoiur meal  sounds delicious

Patricia Racette was wonderful last night. She sang four Arlen songs, two Rodgers and Hart, two Sondheim, a Gershwin and some stuff associated with Edith Piaf. She's in town to sing the lead role in Strauss' Salome. Wish I could go, but I'll be out of town for both performances.

The symphony followed her with about two hours of A Night in Old Vienna with plenty of the other Strauss to keep folks happy.

I am sorry that I disappeared last evening before midnight.  My laptop died on me, and I couldn't figure out what happened.  It turns out that it had become unplugged from the wall, and had been running off of its battery until that ran out too.  Whoops!

Chili is in the crockpot for our dinner sometime during the Rose Bowl.  Watching the Rose Parade now, then we'll switch over to the Cotton Bowl - Go, Spartans!

Cool. I wonder why the album wasn't for sale last night. Maybe people didn't want to stuff it in all those mink coats I helped check in. I got to see almost all of the concert, except for her first number because they had me in coat check. But I did get to hear it.

I'm hankering for some of that myself. I'm making cole slaw, and Bonnie is whipping up colcannon with bangers. Close, but not quite the same.

On Castrecl, one of the listers included Roberta, And the World Goes Round and Sandy's album among the year's standouts. Nice to see the love being spread around to the right areas.

Finally caught up on last night's posts. Congratulations, Danise, on the suit being dropped. Horrible story. Sounds like something people in my neighborhood would do.

I meant to make a slow-cooked beef stew today, but I was too worn out after the Old Actor's Lunch, yesterday, that I just went home and napped all afternoon.  So, I have no idea what I will do for my First Meal.

Thank you all for the welcome back greetings!

I have to confess that I don't care much for Sauerkraut but I do this more in memory and respect to my upbringing.

Kinda like Good Friday.  You know that normally I won't touch fish but I do on that one day because my Mom asked me to.

Yay for all the HHW listees.  And HHW, Kritzerland and their relatives were especially well-represented in his "Notable Studio or Concert Cast Albums" category:

Notable Studio or Concert Cast Albums:
And The World Goes Round (Kritzerland), Herringbone (Yellow Sound), Meet John Doe (Broadway Records), One Touch Of Venus (JAY), Roberta (New World)

I'm sorry I missed the Herringbone selection. My copy still hasn't arrived.

DR Jeanne I don't remember Aiken Ave by name though I'm sure I road my bike on it at some point in my childhood :)

I did find this charming cottage style home that recently sold for $1,300,000.  Might it have been your uncle's?

My childhood home truly needs new landscaping.  It is basically the same without having been kept up well, and the front landscaping was never all that pretty to begin with.
