TOD:

Two movies come immediately to mind:

1. I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG - That final scene never fails to affect me.

2. 1984 (1954) - I saw this when it first came out. It was the 2nd feature on a double bill at the Coliseum Theater in Seattle. I was 15 and I'd not read the book. The movie scared the Hell out of me.

We don't yet have a new site, but moving is looking like more and more of a certainty. You'd think, with all the vacant real estate in this town, someone would like to donate a space for a good cause.

Good morning, all.

Texas Chsunsaw Massacre was filmed at Cele Store, a barbecue joint east of Austin. Secondhand Lions and A Perfect World were also filmed there. Magnificent building. Got a great photo of it at evening with ominous clouds behind it that's used in the BBQ book.

I watched the original Chainsaw for the BBQ book as research. My reaction was very similar to BK's recent viewing. It's a good example of a film from a genre I don't care about.

A Nazi doctor who tortured children was not caught - and late in life he lives in an iron lung and is taken care of by a young man who doesn't know his history....or does he....

Somehow I managed to see The Exorcist when I was 13 even though one was supposed to be 18. It did have an emotional impact on me.

Saw The Omen but didn't like it

I was also a teenager when I saw The Exorcist -- Mom and I were on the sofa watching with our crochet lap blankets. When ever there was a scary part -- we would pull the afghan over our head and watch the TV between the holes of the blanket. The first and only time I saw the movie -- it had an emotional impact on me as well. I was like -- wanting to grab my rosary beads when ever the theme song was played. It comes from 12 years of catholic school. LOL

I can laugh about it now, but then -- holey moley!

I know I'm going to sound like a crazy person when I say this, but I really hated "Raiders of the Lost Arc" when I saw it in the theater. I was just so uncomfortable throughout the whole thing. I probably wouldn't hate it now, but I absolutely couldn't understand the appeal of it at the time.

I saw LITTLE BIG MAN on tv when I was a child. Some scene in it disturbed me greatly, but I don't remember what it was (although I think it might have been a murder of a native American woman). I have not watched the movie since.

FEAR IS THE KEY. My brother Allen and his girlfriend took me and my little brother to see this at the theatre. Why? I don't know. We were just little kids. The film, as I recall, starts out with someone using a flame thrower to kill a man and woman. That is all I remember about the film, but it upset me a lot at the time.

The scene in Little BigMan that bothered me was the one that suggested a dog was being killed for dinner.

It's hard to say because my take on the question -- What is the most disturbing film or films you've seen? -- seems to be different from the others here.

"Salo: 120 Days of Sodom" by Pier Paolo Pasolini is possibly the most "disturbing" film I've seen. One of the worst, too. It's a film you could not pay me to watch again, as well.

I've seen some fright films with imagery that was "scary disturbing" but nothing I felt strongly about after watching them.

Of course, there is "Silence of the Lambs" -- the scenes with Jaime Gumm, who kidnapped and starved plump girls so that their loose skin could be more easily peeled off of them so he could make "skin clothing" from it was probably the most disturbing thing I've seen in a film of quality.

I started to watch "Salo: 120 Days of Sodom" (I got it from Netflix), and just couldn't get into it. It was too weird for me.

Another Topic of the Day film: Pink Flamingos. Just toooo weird for me when I saw it.

DR ChasSmith just headed back to Connecticut. The first hour from 11:00-noon dealt with unloading and getting the two filing cabinets into my building. When we turned one on its side for easier hauling, a mechanism holding one side of one of the drawers fell apart. We spent about an hour then trying to reassemble the piece. It wasn't easy and we finally found a workable solution, and went to lunch. It was a lovely visit, and DR ChasSmith is great company, and I am extremely grateful for his generosity in time and friendship.

I will now put my apartment back in order and then soak in a hot bath.

Several months ago, our DR ChasSmith mentioned that he might have access to several 5-drawer fling cabinets from a closed office, if i'd like any for storage, and I accepted. So, this morning, DR ChasSmith is driving into Manhattan with these large cabinets in the back of his automobile. I will replace two 4-drawer cabinets I have with them.

So, last night I emptied the contents of the two cabinets and they are spread all over my living space awaiting transfer to their new home. I'm giving the ld cabinets to my neighbor across the hall, so they are not moving far. DR ChasSmith has warned me these cabinets weigh a ton, s I hope getting them from the car to the apartment can be accomplished without too much stress, hernia, or stroke.

I will spend some of my day reorganizing and putting things away. I need to talk to my adopted son Joshie at some point about the Encores! work, which I believe can finally begin (Thank you, Jesus!), and if I need therapy after all of this exertion today, I've got therapy in the morning.
