Saturday morning greetings! Back to work today. We're putting back together the parts of our bedroom that we've finished painting and getting ready to do more. Rob and Mary Linda will be here to begin their painting of the room directly above that will be their living/dining room. We'll have our Independence Day cook-out today.

There was a big fireworks show not too far from house, and it was quite pleasant to watch some of it form my front porch. Luckily the noise (which was loud enough to rattle the windows and walls) does not bother Sugar at all. Same with thunderstorms-- so we are both very lucky that is not a problem. There have only been a couple of times during storms when a thunder clap was so loud that she got upset-- and we both jumped under the covers for those.

Good morning, all! I finally decided at 11:30 I no reason to stay any longer in bed. Now that i'm up, I have no reason to be out of bed either. It's a tossup.

I have absolutely no plans, no ambitions, for today. I think the big adventure may be changing the ceiling light in the kitchen. Perhaps a trip to market.

DR vixmom, yes, I had a wonderful evening gossiping and laughing with Mr Pomahac. I discovered just before I left the apartment that I had misplaced my Metrocard, so I'll be paying full price for the next couple of weeks until the new one arrives.

My mother didn't make it to 90. She passed away at 84. But I held a celebration on her 90th, anyway.

Her 90th birthday was on a Sunday. I placed pink flowers on the worship table. After the morning prayer was concluded, our pianist accompanied me on "His Eye is on the Sparrow," her favorite hymn. Our wonderful Elmore wrote a very beautiful special arrangement just for this occasion. Thank you again, Elmore.

yesterday I starting sneezing and coughing and feeling very unwell and I ended up taking a doseof Alka Seltzer cold medicine and going to sleep

I didn't get up until nearly 10 today but I am feeling much better maybe it was an allergic reaction to all the gunpowder inthe air

Later this afternoon they will be broadcasting a special 3-hour version of "A Prairie Home Companion," to celebrate its 40th anniversary on the air. It is an outdoor event from the campus of Macalester College. Some friends of mine are going (I am going to listen on the radio), and I have volunteered to drop them off, as parking for miles around will be a madhouse.

I was a bit concerned about the fireworks because The Frat Boys in a nearby building don't have a clue how to behave, at least where noise is concerned. But there were no problems that I'm aware of. Not even a lot of noise. My neighbors must have been elsewhere.

Well, the fun never ends.

Car dealer just called me --

Oh wait, maybe I didn't say the car was at the dealer's today for three things that need repair or adjustment. The big thing was the driver's door latch where the fault was found in the security system, a replacement job taking a few hours.

Anyhoo... they were to have everything done this afternoon, but they just called me with "good news and bad news": they've got the door half taken apart and found something ridiculously broken in the window system. What will put it right is a $50 part. The bad news: the part's in New Jersey and they won't have it till Tuesday. (They're closed on Mondays, so that's actually the next working day.)

So, they want to keep the car till then and complete the repair. Why? Because putting that $50 part in won't add anything to the labor cost while they've got the thing opened up. If they put it back together and I take the car today and bring it back, that job will cost me more like $300. They could provide me with a loaner, but the timing on its availability is so tight that I found a friend with a car I can use between now and then.

Did I mention how the fun never ends?

(One of the telephone calls in life that you never want to get is the one from the guy repairing your car. Even if it includes some "good news", it's certainly otherwise always bad. Or it at least means inconvenience.)

I hope to have another day like yesterday. I really do need to get rid of more, but find that I can't work at it for hours on end like I used to. It's just too tedious. I'll try to chip away at it. And no one cares whether my abode is clutter-free or not but me.
