The last 2 evenings have given me great hope for our community.  On Wednesday, Richard and I (along with other members of the local senior center) had a Scrub Tour of our 6-year-old hospital.  We visited the surgery area, the rehab floor, the infusion center, and the Level-3 trauma room in the ER and heard from many dedicated professionals about their jobs.  We came away with a lot of confidence in the medical care available nearby.  Last night, AAUW Middletown met at the local campus of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in downtown Middletown.  Cincinnati State president Dr. O'Dell Owens spoke and then we toured the building.  This is a great asset that is contributing to the revival of our downtown.

Last night's event was AAUW's regular monthly meeting and I conducted a short business meeting before the Cincinnati State folks took over.  As we introduced guests and new members, the following "firsts" were observed:

1)  For the first time, we had 3 husbands in attendance at a branch meeting - my husband Richard, plus Chris' husband Tom and Becky's husband Dan.  All were there to see the new Cincinnati State facility.

2)  For the first time, we had 3 generations from one family in attendance - longtime member Katie and her daughter Laura, who's a newer member, introduced their mother/grandmother who's visiting from out of state.

3)  For the first time, our membership includes elected members of both our local school board (Katie) and city commission (Dora).

Glad for MR BK that they finally got the Blu Ray right for UMBRELLAS!  I always enjoy it...unless it's on a station with commercials.....but I never got to see it in a theatre.  I did have the YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT LP - and it's still around somewhere....

Invited audience vibes for MR BK & Co.

And does DR MATTHEW have a show that is opening tonight as well?  I can't keep up with all the shows and entertainment that HHW produces!

So, FJL, when are you bringing "Viva Max" home to San Antonio?

Hmmm, that would be a fun place to do it, wouldn't it?

Some shameless self-promo for me, Skip and sometimes-DR Julie:

We had our table-reading of VIVA MAX!, our new musical based on the novel by Jim Lehrer, was presented for an invited audience yesterday aftrenoon.  The musical has a book by Julie and me, and music & lyrics by Skip.

Mr. Lehrer gave it a standing ovation and made a lovely, touching, funny speech at the end.

The cast was: (in alphabetical order)
Kurt Bardele –  Governor of Texas, Sheriff
Michael Cone –  Private Ungaro, Farmer
Milla Ilieva –  Carmela, Lady Bird Johnson
[Milla has an album on Kritzerland.]
Joseph Kolinski -  General Maximilian de Santos
William Parry –  Police Chief Sylvester, Lyndon Johnson
[Joe Kolinski and Bill Parry are leads on the "Last Starfighter" Kritzerland album.]
Ric Ryder –  Corporal Crecencio
Maureen Silliman –  Hattie [also Lynda Bird Johnson]
Jake Smith –  John Wayne, Highway Patrolman
Janie Smulyan –  Luci Baines Johnson, Ida Fellows
Christianne Tisdale -  Paula
[There is an interview by BK on HainesHisWay of Christianne here
                  http://www.haineshisway.com/interview-section/interview-christianne-tisdale/  ]

Skip posted on his Facebook page:
"We did a first table-reading of our musical version of Jim Lehrer's novel VIVA MAX today. We invited about 20 close theatre-writer friends and Mr. Lehrer, his wife and one of his daughters attended. Mr. Lehrer gave us a standing O at the end. Man, that felt good. Mrs. Lehrer gave me huge praise for the music and lyrics. I have to thank a wonderful cast for nailing it today. Joe Kolinski, Christianne Tisdale, Milla Ilieva, Ric Ryder, Maureen Silliman, Bill Parry, Jane Smulyan, Michael Cone, Kurt Bardele and Jacob Leonard Smith.
Evan Pappas did wonderful work with our cast on Tuesday helping them with music-stand-eography and boosting the oomph of their characterizations."

That's wonderful, Fred!  Congrats to you and Skip and Julie!! :D

And I am home from haircut and seeing Joshie. I have a nice bit of work lined up, so I had better get organized.

It's a wet day in Manhattan, and I foolishly left the umbrella here.

Good news about the reading, DR FJL!

Had to make a change of plans. Forecasts of ice and snow in the Panhandle have kept me closer to home this weekend. Ugh.

Just so our friends here know, these items were not picked up off the theatre floors as DR JRand requested.  They are the ones Richard handed me when we got "home" from each performance!

Ginny, my nephew and niece receive the "off the floor" Playbills unless there is a fresh pile sitting unattended by an usher. Then I will take 2 off the top. I always make sure the off the floor Playbills are not beat up or torn but I'm always surprised at the number of people who just leave their Playbills on the floor as they leave the show.

I'm up, I'm up - I didn't get to sleep until two-thirty - had to write something for our program (they asked me - I usually don't write a "director's note."  So, eight hours of sleep.
