Had a nice dinner with a friend then said friend wanted to watch the Swedish The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, so we did.  This is my third time seeing it, although only the second time seeing the extended version.  Bottom line: For me, one of the best if not THE best movie of the last decade.  For me, like Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby and a few other films, I don't get tired of this and it's always like seeing it for the first time because the plot is so dense and the characters so wonderful.  Said friend will come back to watch the two subsequent films.

I had a chopped salad for dinner, with some wings, at The Studio Cafe.

I'm so glad to hear you say that. I loved the Swedish film of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which I viewed after reading the three books. Absolutely riveting.  It reminds me to watch it again. Thank you.

It's interesting - Cuckoo's Calling still has very few first editions at the ABE and what's there isn't selling at 3500 or 2500.  One signed copy just sold at just under four grand.  One other signed copy is available for 6,200.  It's been revealed that 250 copies were signed and they all went to one dealer and that's where all these have come from.  That dealer is now selling on eBay so heaven knows how many copies they held back.  They're currently Buy It Now for 4600.  But the unsigned firsts seem to be holding steady at 1500 to 1700, which is interesting after the price went up so quickly.  However, I think when the ten or so copies currently listed all sell at those prices, then the next batch will probably go up.

I have to say that the dealers' behavior with this book has been fairly reprehensible and you can see the result on the ABE in star ratings for those dealers plunging to either zero or one.  Before I snagged my copy, I had purchased - PURCHASED - two other copies on the ABE that very first day, as soon as they became listed (I was hanging out on that page most of that first day).  One dealer canceled the purchase, saying he'd gotten too many orders to fill, when I know I was the first person to order from him.  And then, magically, a day later he had a copy up for ten times what I was supposed to pay.  Funny that.  The other dealer actually confirmed my order, but then didn't complete the purchase.  This they apparently did to so many people that the ABE suspended their account.

I'd also that very first day purchased via amazon third party seller, one copy of the US edition, just to have it.  And that first day that dealer could ONLY have had first printings - the book didn't go into its second printing until a week later.  So, I got a confirmation and a shipping notice saying it had been shipped via DHL but no tracking info, which made me suspicious.  It should have been here days ago.  I wrote the seller a VERY strong e-mail and he apologized and acknowledged it should have been here and made a refund plus ten bucks for my disappointment.  I think we all know when he saw what was happening he just held back his copies and didn't ship anyone's book  That is what I mean by reprehensible.

RYacko, if you haven't gotten the extended editions of the trilogy, that's what you should get - the first film is longer by twenty minutes and that extra material is great.  And the extended versions of films two and three, which are much longer than the standard versions, are also helped immeasurably the the added scenes.

BK, I have yet not seen the extended versions of any of the trilogy. That is exactly what I will get. Thank you for the recommendation!
