I made the mistake of watching a new episode of TWO AND HALF MEN last night.  Ashton Kutcher is really bad.....REALLY BAD....and they have brought in a couple of other guys - only one of whom is helping.....  Why is this show still on?

I have suffered through a few episodes. It's like a car wreck that you can't stop watching. My jaw drops and I think "this can't get any worse" and then it does! I am by no means a prude, but this show brings a whole new definition to Vulgar. It wasn't that good when Charlie Sheen was on but now it's sunk through the bottom of the barrel and sits at the bottom of a fetid swamp.

Whatever qualities the show had, I think Charlie Sheen provided most of them (along with Holland Taylor and the actress who plays Berta).  Jon Cryer -- the multiple Emmy-winner for the show -- is atrocious.  His performances are pure ham, and his character is intolerably lame.

This season, the few shows I watched were vulgar in the extreme.  When you run out of good ideas,  you go for the vulgar, I guess.

I just got word from BearManor Media.  Theyy are going to publish my 2nd book of memoirs; the stories that I couldn't fit into the first book.

Awaiting the contract...

Excellent news!

THE ACTRESS is a very charming movie.....I saw it on Frances Farmer Presents many decades ago....my favorite part is Spencer Tracy's first telephone call.

I woke up at 4:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Enough sleep to not be able to sleep, but not enough to feel good during the day. I'm sure you've all had this happen. Ugh!

Reminder to self:  OUTSIDE THE BOX on Sunday night!

Thanks for the reminder, Jack, for those of us who can't remember what day it is--or sometimes even what year!   :P

We watched the HBO version of MILDRED PIERCE this week.  Great performances by Kate Winslet, Guy Peerce and the rest of the cast, but I like the Joan Crawford version better.

I like the remake very much. How often does that happen? I thought they did a great job.

Okay either I've gone completely batty or something is screwy, but I looked at the birthday calendar yesterday and did not see it was Kerry and Donald.  Something is screwy somewhere.  Adding to the notes right now.

I've meant to ask this for the longest time:

Does anyone else ever log in via smartphone and have the site remember your password ... and remember it correctly?  Mine shows the asterisks, but rarely does HHW accept whatever's there as correct, and I have to reenter it manually.  But once every several times, it'll work.  Bizarre.

I never looked into how to get my iPhone to save passwords, but I think I have myself set up to never log out from HHW on it.

And I just figured it out.  The January calendar ended last night - and even though it had the rest of this week on it it did NOT have the names for today.

Today is Victor Herbert's birthday, too. You should all listen to your favorite Victor Herbert song. Since I do not know how to post an mnp3 file here, I cannot send you all mine, "Barney O'Flynn" from BABES IN TOYLAND.

I just typed Victor Herbert into Spotify and this came up at the top of the list:

(I already have it but now it's always available to me on Spotify.)

I thought it was fine, too.

I assume that it stuck close to the original book.

However, there one major addition they made to the plot of the Crawford movie that made it, overall, a more effective rendition dramatically.  I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

For those who haven't seen the Crawford movie, I won't be a Spoiler and reveal it here.

4:22 this morning.  Just caught a little snooze a while ago, but hardly any help.

Richard has gone to the Dayton 'burbs to see THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.  I opted to stay home, because almost 3 hours of hobbits would be too much even if I felt great.

We went out to a great place for breakfast, and I had food for eight.

Then we went birding a little. Saw an American bittern and some red-crested ducks and skimmers as well pelicans, an egret and plenty of herons. Seeing three or four roseate spoonbills in flight is one of the glories of God's creation.

But I don't know if any photos came out. My adapter card has died and I need to hit a Walmart to get it replaced.
