And, RIP to film and television producer Gerry Anderson who was the creator of so many wonderful TV puppet shows like STINGRAY, CAPTAIN SCARLET, and THUNDERBIRDS. He died yesterday at age 83.

Wow, puppet shows.  I must have skipped those.

I'm up.  I was up at seven, actually.  Last night, I put my car away at ten in the evening.  I realized the gardener hadn't come and hence the trash cans hadn't been put out for Tuesday pick-up, which was obviously Christmas.  And they hadn't come yesterday.  I looked up and down the street - ten at night - no trash cans anywhere, so I figure they're not coming until next week or something.  At seven, I hear the fershluganah trash truck, blocks away, mind you.  So, I get up and take the two trash cans out to the curb.  And EVERY DAMN HOUSE'S TRASH CANS ARE OUT THERE.  When exactly did these cretins put them out - at midnight?  At six in the morning?

LOL-probably.

Good morning, all! I slept poorly again and so I slept late this morning. I had a long dream that had my parents and me involved in some way with a summer theatre but all I remember is my giving my mother the keys to my Gremlin and telling her that I needed to take their car and they could follow in mine when they were ready. And I was wearing a light blue shirt.

I think I will go to the New York Public Library today. I have some questions for the Theatre Division and I cando a bit of DEAREST ENEMY sleuthing.

DR cillaliz, I would go with the Norman Denny translaton that Penguin publishes. It's a recent one and I'm sure it will be much more entertaining than some of the morestilted 19th century English ones that Oxford University Press and other presses reprint. I've ordered a copy of the Signet/New American Library translation; it's a good, recent translation and it's the one I read about 15 years ago. I'm thinking about reading it again as well as THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO (only good translation by Robin Buss). I've also got another copy - I have no idea where the first one went! - of the recent ANNA KARENINA translation.

More coffee!
.  Right now I'm reading the End of Life Book Club.

When you are done please let me know if you recommend it or not.

Especially the theme songs.

DR elmore when doing a search on the unabridged version you suggested I noticed you said I could not have read the unabridged version in 2 days.  Considering the speed & non stop reading I did back then I doubt another 200 pages would have made much of a difference. :)

DR Vixmom - Sharon told me they have good insurance.  Her husband works at Walmart and has a good policy from work. They also have a second policy that covers a lot of what the first one doesn't. She said there will probably be a cap on the amount for a new arm as the good ones are extremely expensive.  Several friends are working on fundraiser plans, and others have quietly sent checks to help with expenses.

That's great about her insurance & it is nice to read something good about being a Walmart employee ;)

Sorry to read your posting about Junior's, Jane. It looks kinda like the logo of the Junior's in Brooklyn. Was there any relation that you know of?

Not that I know of.  Searching both sites the Booklyn Junior's came first.

After the big snowstorm in yesterday I thought I might not make it back home today, but I'm here.

Of course my flight was delayed for about 2 hours.

Oh, yeah, my luggage didn't arrive with me.  I'm waiting for it to be delivered.

At least it is on the way to you...just in case...

Safe luggage arrival vibes!!!

I'm pleased to hear of DF Sharon's progress. Three months is a long time to be in the hospital, even if it's rehab. It's great that she feels up to company; clearly, her spirits are good.

On Christmas Day I learned that my cousin Marion and her husband have both passed away. Marion and I had not been close in recent years, but she was the link to the part of the family that I was close to.

TOD:

I am really enjoying the USA network shows Royal Pains, White Collar, Covert Affairs and Suits.
But these are four shows I love.

Personally, I didn't care for SUITS, but I ADORE WHITE COLLAR! Like you, Jennifer, I also enjoy ROYAL PAINS and COVERT AFFAIRS. I love the character Boris in Royal Pains and wish he'd let ME live in one of his guest houses!

I, too, look forward to THE WELL-DIGGER'S DAUGHTER. I have to keep a window open to Netflix whenever I'm reading the Notes or posts.

DR Jeanne, that is very sad.  Were they in an accident together?  Even when we don't stay close to certain people their passing can hit us very hard, especially those we grew up with.

We tried not to hog it.

So, when I first installed Mac OS 10.6.8, my computer and printer were not communicating.  This morning I asked Richard to look at it before I called Apple Care.  Thought I'd just run a test so he could see what happened when I tried to print and - VOILA! - they've kissed and made up.  No attention from Richard and no call to Apple Care required!

Ginny, I'm going to call you the next time I'm having computer trouble.   ;)

Hi DR Jeanne.

Did you eat at Junior's?

Yes, Jane. In fact, BK and I have eaten there. I hadn't heard they were closing, but I don't follow local news much. It would certainly be a loss. They're always busy.

No, not an accident. Several months apart. I don't have all the details yet.

Sometimes I miss having NetFlix.  On the upside, Keith has been recording numerous old movies we didn't used to watch.

Thanks Elmore, this helps a lot.  I've never actually read Les Miz, The County of Monte Cristo or Anna Karenina. I almost hate to admit that, but I think I'm going to remedy that soon.  Right now I'm reading the End of Life Book Club.

I would like to read THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. I will leave The COUNTY of Monte Cristo to Cillaliz. May I assume that she uses the word "county" on many legal documents?

Thanks for this link, JRand. I had read an article about Gerry Anderson this morning on BBC.com, but had never seen any of the shows. He said he didn't really enjoy working with puppets! He also explained Supermarionation.
