Good morning, all! I slept poorly again and so I slept late this morning. I had a long dream that had my parents and me involved in some way with a summer theatre but all I remember is my giving my mother the keys to my Gremlin and telling her that I needed to take their car and they could follow in mine when they were ready. And I was wearing a light blue shirt.

I think I will go to the New York Public Library today. I have some questions for the Theatre Division and I cando a bit of DEAREST ENEMY sleuthing.

DR cillaliz, I would go with the Norman Denny translaton that Penguin publishes. It's a recent one and I'm sure it will be much more entertaining than some of the morestilted 19th century English ones that Oxford University Press and other presses reprint. I've ordered a copy of the Signet/New American Library translation; it's a good, recent translation and it's the one I read about 15 years ago. I'm thinking about reading it again as well as THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO (only good translation by Robin Buss). I've also got another copy - I have no idea where the first one went! - of the recent ANNA KARENINA translation.

More coffee!

For DR Cillaliz:

Great news about cat sitter Sharon!

Sad news about Paul's mom.

Ditto!
I got all caught up in novels!

Well, if I'm going to make this happen, I'd better get my arse moving:  I'm going down to the Walter Reade to see Tati's PLAYTIME in 70mm.  I've only seen it on the Blu-ray, and I hope the print is a great one.  (I've heard a couple of very good reports so far on the 70mm prints of 2001 and WEST SIDE STORY.)

Another Don't-Have-To-Do-Nothin' Day for me!  The weather is cold but clear, so I might venture out to the malls to pick up calendars and do a little clothing shopping.

It's been a morning of finance, with IRA rollovers from two previous employers and all sorts of fun. I guess I have to deal with it some time.

Why was I the last to know that Jaymes, part of the Chippendale's dancer duo competing on this last season's The Amazing Race, was gay? No mention was made during the show, but still everyone I know already knew.

He was one of the nicest people I have ever watched compete on this show, I must say.

And, RIP to film and television producer Gerry Anderson who was the creator of so many wonderful TV puppet shows like STINGRAY, CAPTAIN SCARLET, and THUNDERBIRDS. He died yesterday at age 83.

So, when I first installed Mac OS 10.6.8, my computer and printer were not communicating.  This morning I asked Richard to look at it before I called Apple Care.  Thought I'd just run a test so he could see what happened when I tried to print and - VOILA! - they've kissed and made up.  No attention from Richard and no call to Apple Care required!

I'm up.  I was up at seven, actually.  Last night, I put my car away at ten in the evening.  I realized the gardener hadn't come and hence the trash cans hadn't been put out for Tuesday pick-up, which was obviously Christmas.  And they hadn't come yesterday.  I looked up and down the street - ten at night - no trash cans anywhere, so I figure they're not coming until next week or something.  At seven, I hear the fershluganah trash truck, blocks away, mind you.  So, I get up and take the two trash cans out to the curb.  And EVERY DAMN HOUSE'S TRASH CANS ARE OUT THERE.  When exactly did these cretins put them out - at midnight?  At six in the morning?

Thanks Elmore, this helps a lot.  I've never actually read Les Miz, The County of Monte Cristo or Anna Karenina. I almost hate to admit that, but I think I'm going to remedy that soon.  Right now I'm reading the End of Life Book Club.

DR Vixmom - Sharon told me they have good insurance.  Her husband works at Walmart and has a good policy from work. They also have a second policy that covers a lot of what the first one doesn't. She said there will probably be a cap on the amount for a new arm as the good ones are extremely expensive.  Several friends are working on fundraiser plans, and others have quietly sent checks to help with expenses.

In all seriousness, yes. I know one former Chippendale (he is straight) and he vouches for others who danced at the New York club in the 80s. The group was a mix of G&S (not Gilbert and Sullivan).
