PINCE-NEZ

Well, you've read the notes, the notes brought back the pince-nez, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently wondering where they can purchase a pince-nez.

Good morning, all.

And may all your pince-nez be pertinacious.

I have a PVR and really like it. I don't like watching commercials. Mostly the only shows I watch live are things like Survivor or The Amazing Race. But I still start them 15 minutes later so I will have no waiting.

I would definitely not like watching tv if I had to be there exactly when the show was on.

Sunday morning greetings!  No Lima for us today, of course.  Fr. Richard is still sleeping, although I woke up at my usual Sunday time (5:30am).  I read for a while and then slept in my chair until 9.  We're expecting Rob and Mary Linda after their church.  Rob's going to help me do some set-up for Thanksgiving and we're going to have the belated steak dinner that we didn't have on Richard's birthday.

I do not have a DVR machine either.

I am looking forward to CLOUD ATLAS.....but not looking forward to the theatre experience.....I shall probably wait for the BluRay which should be around in June or July.

We don't have a DVR. We don't watch enough television to justify the expense of a monthly TIVO bill. We don't have cable either.

I enjoyed ARGO, too.  I did wonder a little bit about that whole last segment, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

We watched Broadway Melody of 1940.

There was a feature with Ann Miller about the movie and Cole Porter. It was fun to watch.

There was a TERRIBLE (IMHO) Our Gang short called The Big Premiere. A (very) young Robert Blake was in the cast. I was never a fan of The Little Rascals or Our Gang (is anyone surprised?).

No pinching of any kind today.

I LOVED Our Gang/Little Rascals up to the point when MGM bought the rights.  They "lost something" at that point.

"Broadway Melody of 1940" is great musical fun and, in its final several minutes, a "classic of the genre".

Good morning, all! I have no plans today, and so I slept in.

Now that I'm moving about, I will find some breakfast, and maybe begin a book. I'm thinking about a third go with Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo: revenge, unrequited love, good deeds, evil plots, an Arabian fantasy, opium dens, serial killers, lesbians, suicide, righted wrongs; it's got it all, and it's a fantastic novel, to boot. The Peguin unabridged and unexpurgated edition, translated by Robin Buss, is a revelation, since all 19th century translations, for Victorian sensitivities, censored or cleaned up all things unmentionable in polite society.

DR vixmom, what a great day for you and your good deeds!

I have a DVR and have no idea how it works. Absolutely none.

I may see ARGO n Thanksgiving day. May I'll see LINCOLN again. I will decide on Thursday morning.

The following is a public service announcement for my fellow addicts:

The Criterion/B&N sale was to have ended today or tomorrow, but has been extended -- at least in the stores around here I've talked to -- until at least Thanksgiving weekend.
