I'm so tired.  We did a Costco run, I had my Cobb salad, I picked up no packages, and I had to make some minor fixes to packaging we're trying to get approved by Friday.  Then I sat down on the couch like so much fish and went out for about an hour.

Really.

Really.  My ears just popped for no reason whatsoever.  Then my nose popped.  It's kind of a popping thing going on.

My ear popped today after about six weeks of needing to pop. It was glorious.

Congratulations!

Off to take Mother to an appointment (hopefully her last one post-surgery) & then to visit with my grandparents.
It's a bummer to think about, but this will either be our last Thanksgiving with Grandpa, or our first without him. I feel blessed to have had him be such an integral part of my life & have been slowly coming to terms with his mortality since he was approved for hospice care a few months ago.

I just watched a very nice movie, RAPTURE, of which I previously knew nothing.  Now I shall read Julie Kirgo's notes on it which I know will be enlightening.  This brings me almost up to date on the Twilight Times I've acquired, which is most of them.  The only one here remaining to be seen is DESIREE, of which I also know nothing.

Watching the original "Cat People." It's wonderfully creepy.

I was starving earlier, ate, am full now, but it was a completely unsatisfying meal.  My own fault.  I simply chose wrong.  Where was my judgement?  Don't you HATE IT when that happens?

To my knowledge, we have no good deli food in this town, and that's what I've had a real craving for these past few days.  So let's allow that to bring this post around to Art's Delicatessen, where I ate for the first time while in L.A. a few weeks ago.  Art's is located in the heart of BK's own Studio City.

I was surprised to find myself immediately moving it into my personal highest category of favorite delis.  Oh, there are a couple in my past for which I'd commit a murder if it would help bring them back.  But you know what?  They were the Art's type of place.  And we have Art's.  So, I should be at peace with it and stay out of prison.  Right?

My visit was all too brief.  Had the pastrami on rye, my benchmark for quality.  It passed with flying colors.  You'd get a little more of it piled up at the Carnegie, home of my equally-favorite pastrami, but the sandwich was 100% to my liking.  Art's pastrami is leaner than the Carnegie's, but just as flavorful, and the whole affair is a bit easier to put away.

All the food in the case up front looked fantastic, as did that on other people's tables.  But I really loved the place as a whole for its perfect ambiance, perfect deli-style booth seating, perfect service, perfect everything.  Mind you, it's been years since I've been in Factor's or any other L.A. deli, but --- I love Art's.

ChasSmith - I've written about Rapture here several times - I saw it at a sneak preview many months before its release and then several times when it had its one and only week's run here in LA - I was totally mad for Miss Gozzi.

Oh, excellent.  I'll look for some of that.  I am mad for her, too, as of this very evening.

Can't find performances of Dixieland or Don't Wait, though there are pictures of the sheet music for Don't Wait.

Ben, they didn't have music back when those songs were written.  That is why elmore did the orchestrations.

Art's Deli has never been to my liking.  I'm glad you had a good sandwich there.  Next time you're here, it's Langer's.  Langer's is in a sketchy neighborhood at Seventh and Alvarado and is only open until four in the afternoon, but there pastrami is considered to be either the best or second best in the entire world.  Also the best potato pancakes anywhere.

And Nate 'n' Al's in Beverly Hills still serves up a great pastrami sandwich and they have the best kishka ever.

Got an e-mail from the LA Opera - they're doing Madame Butterfly, which I'm tempted to go see.  I did have to laugh that one of the dates they're hawking is Tuesday, December 6th.  I laughed because December 6th is a Thursday.

The Notorious Nitpicker is the title of a song in my new musical.
