From DR Vixmom:
Quote
we just drove up  and down the neighborhood in the van and would ask if they needed any cleaning supplies - word would spread down the block and people would come  and we would hand stuff out-- they were overjoyed to be given   a gallon of bleach and a clean mop and bucket

when they found out that we also had  contracter bags  they were so grateful - the area this is in is not close to any store s-  many of them still do not have working  cars (as they were also submerged) or they don't have the gas and could not go out and waiting  on gas lines because they are busy trying to get all the rapidly molding  wet stuff out of their homes - also they were afraid to leave thier homes for an extended period of time as  their are looters who are ripping copper pipes out and grabbing all the metal they can  to sell as scrap

they have had to enforce a curfew in the area from 5 PM to dawn to try and keep the looters out -  but now it seems that some, of the looters are coming ion  by boat and sneaking in that way (all these homes are on  or just off canals)

It's great you could drive through and pass out needed items like this.  It is so very sad about the looters on top of everything else.  The extent the looters go to in order to loot is shocking.

I'm packing for my flight to Madrid, Spain later today and where I'm sure the weather will be better than it is here. I usually fly British Airways but for a change I'm using a budget airline but paying a bit more for a better seat.

SAFE & EASY TRAVELS!

I wish I was going to warm Spain.  I've never been there.

And it's time to head home. The buyer did not show up today for coat or carton.

Have a great trip, Doug R. I have fond memories of Madrid, but they were from so far in the past that I can no longer count the years.

Baby It's Cold Outside - Ann-Margret & Brian Setzer
Frosty the Snowman - Leon Redbone & Dr. John
I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm - Ella Fitzgerald
Jingle Bells - Ella Fitzgerald
Let It Snow! - Ella Fitzgerald
Sleigh Ride - Arthur Fiedler/Boston Pops
Sleigh Ride - Squirrel Nut Zippers
Sleigh Ride - Ella Fitzgerald
Marshmallow World - Ella Fitzgerald & Bing Crosby
Winter's Here Again - The Fontane Sisters
Winter Weather - Jo Stafford
Winter Weather - Squirrel Nut Zippers
Winter Wonderland - Ella Fitzgerald

Brian Setzer's Christmas album was a lot of fun, wasn't it? I'll have to dig that up this year.

I just put a cake in the oven.  It is a new recipe I've never tasted or baked, apple filled sour cream cake.  The batter was incredibly thick & the layers difficult to do.  I'm resting my shoulder before I clean up.

I hope this comes out cuz I have my doubts.  I didn't think the batter tasted all that great.  The apple with butter & brown sugar filling is yummy.

Gonna try and do my Monday casserole using this ham steak I have.  Probably a broccoli/ham thing.  That all requires a trip to the grocery, though.

Off to take Mother to an appointment (hopefully her last one post-surgery) & then to visit with my grandparents.
It's a bummer to think about, but this will either be our last Thanksgiving with Grandpa, or our first without him. I feel blessed to have had him be such an integral part of my life & have been slowly coming to terms with his mortality since he was approved for hospice care a few months ago.

I think of my favorite singers, I have more CDs of hers than anyone else, though Bobby Short and Barbara Cook are certainly close.
