Favorite Film performance: THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE

As I learned when I directed THE CURIOUS SAVAGE last summer....Parcheesi is the Royal Game of India....and really has a very interesting heritage.

Indian Royalty played the game - originally called Crosses & Circles - with live members of their harems in brightly colored costumes on huge outdoor boards.....

In its American form, it reminds me a lot of SORRY.

Sorry is a game that my family has played for years, but Parcheesi reminds me more of Aggravation:

My family has never played Parcheesi.

Has anyone from the East Coast heard any rumblings, good or bad, about the new play, currently in previews, THE PERFORMERS, starring Cheyene Jackson?

Am told we only have about fifty people coming so far on Sunday.  I know there will be more, but all this tells me (and we've had this situation before) is that no one cares about Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin or folks like that.  They'll pack the joint for Hamlisch, anniversary shows, and the Lost in Boston kind of shows, but give 'em an old master and it's a tough sell - which means that the planned Cole Porter and Kern shows are going on a long hold.

I think folks would turn up for a Porter show....especially if you use original lyrics.

If they don't show up for Berlin and Rodgers and Hammerstein, they won't show up for any of the oldsters.  If I were to do a damn Jason Robert Brown show they'd show up - I won't, but they would.  They'd probably show up for a Michael John LaChiusa show and they'll definitely show up for our upcoming Stephen Schwartz show.

If we did an evening of Legally Blonde, Wicked, Footloose, and Bring It On, they'd show up.

I'm expecting Rosemary's and the Hitchcock set - all delivered via Ontrac, which means I probably won't be able to get them until the morning - really irritating!  IF they arrive by two-thirty I could run and get them then, or if my rehearsal ends at five-thirty sharp I could run and get them then - but if the rehearsal goes late, then no way.

I remember playing Parcheesi as a kid, but don't recall what the game was like.

Whenever I stop in at World Market I see reproductions of the old 1930s version of Parcheesi, and one of these days I might buy it...of course I have a closet full of board games that never see the light of day...so...it won't matter if I add one more.

It is so dark outside this afternoon, that I had to turn the kitchen light on so that I didn't walk into the wall.  It is getting stormy.

DR George--yes, the Streisand concerts in Brooklyn were taped.   There have been cameras at all of the shows, but only Brooklyn had the ones on cranes.

I went to the market, and had a ghostly encounter on my way to the elevator. As I passed the mailboxes, there was someone standing there watching me, and then it was gone. Last week something turned my computer on in the middle of th night. It must be getting ready for Halloween.

It's raining outside.

I'm not saying that Sorry isn't based on Parcheesi, but not having played it, I don't know the similarities to that and Sorry.

I'm sure that both Sorry and Aggravation owe some part of their existence to Parcheesi...variations on a theme. :)

And, of course, no Ontrac delivery yet, so the only shot is now at five-thirty.

I think I should add VON RYAN'S EXPRESS which I've always thoroughly enjoyed and in which I thought Sinatra did a great job.

In honor of all the areas hit by Superstorm Sandy, the Pacific Northwet has put almost all of our counties under a Flood Warning.  (Actually it has to do with all the rain we are expecting today and tomorrow.)

BK, did you ever play the game, Sorry?  It is the same game, different name and different manufacturer.

I had no idea.  I used to have it but don't recall how the game was played.
