My late friend, Michael, was the first actor I did the show SLEUTH with, back in 1975.  That year the Committee wanted to honor both of us, but didn't want get in the habit of having ties in the voting (the winners' statues were expensive back then).  So they gave me the Best Actor Award and gave Michael Best Supporting Actor.  Until the day he died, alll you had to do was mention that decision to him, and he would blow-up all over again.

I looked and every year there has been a Tony for Best Musical.

You might be thinking of the ruckus raised when Contact won for Best Musical at the 2000 Tonys. Many people did not consider that a "Broadway Musical" and were upset that it won. The other nominees that year were James Joyce's The Dead, Swing and Michael John LaChiusa's Wild Party.

Oh, maybe that was the year I didn't give out an award for Best Musical.

For better or worse, I haven't had any interest in LOVE NEVER DIES.

That's two of us. I've never understood making the monstrous horror of the murderous Phantom into a tragic hero, either. Sure wasn't Gaston Leroux's intention. And, just like sequels to GONE WITH THE WIND, A DOLL'S HOUSE, frankly, my dear, who gives a damn?

It used to be fairly inflexible, but the nominating committee now decides those things for most shows.

Doug Henning didn't sing, but he was nominated for "The Magic Show."

Flight was fine, traffic not too bad coming into the city, and I'm in my hotel, once again upgraded to a premium room although not quite as premium as the last premium room.  This one's very large, too, but the other one had two bathrooms and was even larger.  But I'm VERY happy here.  Now I'll go out and buy some toiletries.  It took me forever to get on the hotel's network - I kept entering the password exactly as it appears on the little card they give you - all CAPS.  I finally called down only to be told it was all lower case.  I suggested they might want to therefore put it in lowercase on the card.
