I knew it was. I thought I'd avoid it till we finished the recording. I saw the broadcast in 1955 when it was first broadcast and loved it. I have theCD and like Irwin Kostal's arrangements, but I wish the songs were assigned to the correct characters and that the plot followed the original book a little more closely.
I have that CD, too, and love the songs that are there. Can hardly wait for your recording to fill in the gaps, of which there are many, I'm sure.

There's a secondary couple, Jane Murray and Captain Harry Tryon, son of British General Tryon, entirely removed from the tv version! They sing "I Beg Your Pardon " and "Sweet peter."

"Sweet Peter"? My, but that Lorenz Hart was the master of the single entendre.

It's on the tv soundtrack recording with Anne Jeffreys and Cyril Ritchard! The song is about Governer Pieter Stuyvesant, who sang "September Song" in Knickerbocker Holiday.

Sure, that's right. I believe you. Can I interest you in some beads for your land?

(Actually, now that you mention the context, I do remember the song. I still think Hart had something else on his mind.)

Friend gave me the name of two (2) 1950s flicks utilizing the existing film music of several composers, neither of which matches MR BK's very general description of the one we're waiting to hear about. Just to be safe in the meantime, since I subscribe to the "Neither a Spoiler Taker Nor Leaver Be" rule, mum shall be the word.

Looking at the names in MR BK's list, I would say that said movie would have to have some kind of Paramount connection.

In other news, a book usually very well behaved dog Beegee took off a bookshelf and chewed to smithereens is going for several hundred bucks on Amazon, ABE and Alibris. I am verklempt.

Blythe Danner wants to keep acting but a broken bone could change all that.

I love her but I sure hate her overly coy and overly sincere commercial. She was great when I worked with her at Williamstown in June, 2000.

I am with MR BK on last night's episode of MAD MEN.

I would have enjoyed seeing Harry interact with some of the new people at the agency rather than the story line they gave him last night.....going nowhere with nobody interesting....

And Lane's story is pretty boring......with Lane....and Megan, also.....doing things way out of character for them.

The funniest thing about that stupid Blythe Danner commercial is the wonderfully cheery backstage staff, all of whom just love, love, love Blythe and smile approvingly as she walks on stage. Unlike every single stage manager I have ever known.

That's true. I would have loved to have seen Astaire on stage performing "Night and Day" or Merman socking home "Blow, Gabriel, Blow." Or the original "A Little Night Music." So many dreams ...

And yes that is a stage full of REAL SAND.....the show being produced at the same time was COASTAL DISTURBANCES....and we used their sand for an 11 p.m. performance of our show....usually drawing twice the audience numbers as they did....which did not please the COASTAL DISTURBANCES cast.

I saw Coastal Disturbances on Broadway. It was a bore. I'd have rather seen Beach Party Nuclear Protest. Or just watched the sand.
