We are supposed to get a lot of rain tomorrow. Hopefully we won't have too much flooding.

We were supposed to go to the circus. But not sure if we will now.

My AFO brace (which I preferr to call an AOL brace because it doesn't really work) is uncomfortable to wear, and does not allow me to walk, even with a cane.  The problem is that, although my foot does flop around, I also have very little control of my entire left leg.  I can do about two to three Frankenstein steps; but that is all.

At this hour one week from today, we are hosting a party at which we will have somewhere between 59 and 72 guests.  I hope, by the time I have to talk numbers with the banquet manager on Monday, we're able to narrow that margin somewhat.

TOD: I like the white linen look from those Edwardian/E.M. Foster romps like "Room with a View" and "Maurice."

Our guest list margin just narrowed by 3 with a positive response, so we're between 62 and 72 now.

Hello from rainy Northern Virginia!  We're expecting about 5 inches of rain with lots of wind.  I just hope the electricity doesn't go off.

The revival of Chicago has moved past A Chorus Line as the 4th longest running show ever. It surpasses A Chorus Line. The original production open in matter of days of ACL and was over shadowed in its time. I saw the original production with everyone but Chita Rivera as she had left the show. It was one of the first Broadway shows I ever saw.

IMHO I think Chicago is better show and it lights of what has happened with public trials on tv and other medium the show has become more relevant than it was when it first opened.

The show keeps on being rediscovered my younger audiences. I read that they get a lot of High School groups seeing it and for man teenagers this is the first exposure to Broadway.

It also helps with the revolving door of actors every 4 months or so. Some well known some not.

I've wondered if this revival would be doing as well as it has been IF...

-it had used the original book and score - Not the streamlined Encores! concert version.
-the movie version of it had tanked.

And as DR elmore pointed out, the producers have been able to keep this show running via some very blatant "Star Casting". Some of the leads come in for a few months, some only come in for a few weeks. However, it is nice seeing that they're starting to feature some relative unknowns lately such as Nikka Graff Lanzarone.

As for it being the first Broadway show for "man [sic] teenagers", the Weisslers have a very good educational program tied into to the show. They will hold a seminar-like presentation during the day, then the students will see either the matinee or evening show. Of course, bringing in Guest Stars such as Usher, Christie Brinkley, Kara DioGuardi (who starts next week), etc., also brings in some audience members who might otherwise not consider seeing a Broadway show.

Thank you for clarifying. I knew something like that and guess I wasn't able to verbalize properly as I new some of the facts, but not all of them

LOL, DR der Brucer!

I had a phone call from a friend today whose son has applied for a job at the downtown Cincinnati library.  One of my insights for her was that, in Dayton, I loved my job but loathed the environment.

Have you invited all of the out-of-town quests?  It seems like a large rehearsal dinner.

Yes. These are not clothes I could wear. The wine and food stains would be hard to remove.

I was never a big "Chorus Line" fan, either. Thought Hamlisch's music was excellent at times, weak at others. But that was mainly because it eclipsed "Pacific Overtures" that year. I heard "Pacific" first, then "Chicago," then "Chorus Line." Still, I loved the movie about casting the revival of "A Chorus Line."

And everyone on the east coast play it safe. If they tell you to get out do so!

Former DR Matt Hough lives in NC where I believe it made landfall. So vibes to him that he will be okay.

I hadn't realized so I wrote him.  Following is his response, condensed:

How sweet of folks to be concerned. Irene actually didn't come anywhere near me since I live more than 150 miles inland. We had some winds but not a drop of rain and no cooler temperatures either. It has been a hellacious summer here with so many days in the 90s and such awful humidity. A really miserable summer this year. I'm thankful every day for air conditioning.

I am tremendously busy with reviewing right now. Auigust and September are the busiest months for releases for me, so I have reviews going up every day (yesterday I had two). So no rest for the weary!

Take care and love to all,

Matt

Hiz Honor the Guv has banned all non-emergency travel in the state.

Woody's work may well use this as a reason to call him to workl early - he can walk there!

der Brucer

I wish they would cancel store operatrions and NOT call him. Since he is scheduled to start work at eight, if he shows up the union contrct requires them to pay him for four hours whether or not he works.

Since he is required to pay $600/year to that money-grubbing bunch of socialist bureaucrats called a union, I'd like to see him use them. But Mr. Nice, will call in first and see if they need him, and take management off the hook.
