I shall shortly be on my way to the Land of Port - I'll post from the hotel or maybe even from the airport.

Dan (the Man): Really loving the recording of "American Gods." Fun, fun, fun. And in today's reading, a Stephen Sondheim quote.

Well, we were going too well and we were heading for a fall. First we had a sick alto, but the four ladies who showed up were mighty and we got Zak and the ladies' ensemble in the can; our tenor who has wonderful pitch, diction, and a way around the lyrics showed up and announced he was ready to sing but there might be problems since he was up most of the night being violently ill wth what sounds like food poisoning. At that point our pianist announced his inner ear infection was giving him vertigo and that, after we recorded the tenor, he had to go home. I had to call our soprano and tell her her session was cancelled and we'd see her on January 7.

The tenor was wonderful and we recorded him in three takes and two small fixes.

So, I'm hone and I have other work on the recording I can do here, like continue to type up the lyrics.

I have to say that we've been quite fortunate so far, but I can use all the vibes you can send for a successful three action-packed days to finish this turkey from Jan 5-7!

I've got the recording schedule packed for Jan 5-7, and I think it will be an exhausting three days, but everything should get recorded.

On other news, I just saw my 5th floor neighbor Mary Ann, who tells me the Oaf has told her he's moving back to Canada by the end of the year!

I wanted to say as well that Zak is amazing. If he were alive 70 years ago, he would have been a huge recording and movie star. He has a real falir with a popular song from the Golden Age, and I think he was really getting into the Follies MC mode for his two revue numbers with the ladies.

Got very moved by the stories of  Arena Stage's "Oklahoma!" and its contemporary take, so even though the parody-tribute will probably reach relatively few folk:

We're fans here of what the Arena Stage accomplishes, so here's a Regional Parody-Tribute
Parody-tribute of "Kansas City" from OKLAHOMA

EVERYTHING'S UP TO DATE AT THE ARENA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kIMKGkAaRM

It's only about 2 minutes long.  The folks at the Arena even gave me an OK to put some of their photos in.

Very nice, Fred. :)

It's a miracle department:  the "big" downtown Oregonian ran a nice little sidebar about Bruce in today's A&E column.  They linked to Michael's brucekimmel.com site.  ;)

How nice.

I really enjoyed this, Fred. The Arena Stage people could use you with their publicity.

Ugh - overslept this morning and was late to work.  Now I'm home and starving and not feeling great.  I think I just need to eat and maybe take a nap, and then it's back to the Boulevard this eve.  My Aunt (my Father's sister) and her husband will be there this eve.  I haven't seen my father since 1990 and before that, 1977 or something.  We reconnected on email in 2004 and my Aunt in 2007 or something.  The DP and I visited her and her husband in 2007 in which we went to see the tour of Whistle Down the Wind in Sacramento.  We try to keep in touch and tonight they're coming to the show.  Also, my mom and her beau will be there as well.  Mom is hoping they don't run into each other.  I can't see how they could as 35+ years have gone by.
