Actually several National Film Board of Canada shorts

The Railrodder with Buster Keaton
The Plot: After literally walking to Canada from England, Buster takes a cross-country trip across Canada on a railcar

And a great companion piece: Buster Keaton Rides Again a documentary about the making of The Railrodder.

Neighbours (Notice the Canadian/British spelling) had no idea it was from 1952. A classic. It was nominated for 2 Oscars and won one. One of those strange quirks. Best Documentary Short (For which it won and was not a documentary at all) and was nomianted Best SHort Subject (One Reel) which it really wat it was.

It was a live stop motion animated story about two neighbours who fight over a flower that happens to be on the border of their properities.

The Rise And Fall Of The Great Lakes
A comedy and a pseudo documentary at the same time. A man canoes his way through the great lakes

"It features a man on a canoe tour of the Great Lakes while the geological time frame changes around him. He finds himself atop the great glacier, and then suddenly falling from the sky as it is removed. His canoe teeters from a cliff after the shoreline vanishes. He sips pure water from the lake as it suddenly changes to a modern polluted state."

Good morning, all! This morning I head back into the studio with Margaret Jane Wray, who has a lot of solos to record as well as some ensemble work with Steven LaBrie, Rose Sullivan, George Dvorsky, Zak Stains, and Korliss Uecker. I'm hoping we have a good and productive day.

I was in bed by 10 and up at 6:30. I have no memory of any dreams last night, ut I do remember that I slept fitfully and that I was up several times during the night looking at the clock. The Oaf made a lot of noise before 10, but I certainly didn't hear him after that. For all I know, he spent the night elsewhere.

Can one purchase a region-free Blu-Ray player? I've been thinking about buyng one and my chief non-region source of information is DR MBarnum.

DR vixmom, I am so sorry to hear the latest report!

TOD: Anything with Buster Keaton. Most of Chaplin. There's a hilarious short about somebody breaking all 10 of the 10 commandments in about 10 minutes or so, the title of which I forgot. And I love De Duve, which BK pointed out. I think it holds up well and here's a link to it:

TOD: I'm not a movie person at all, and even less of a "short" person, so I'm not dealing with too long a list. Right now, I'm going through a bunch of Three Stooges films, of which my favorite so far is "Pop Goes the Easel," just for a scene in which the boys pretend to be foreign, and random gibberish gets interspersed with Italian opera and lower-East side Yiddish.

Very interesting news in the notes - I know nothing of said film, and it sounds interesting to see. I have yet to buy a BluRay disc that will not play on my Samsung player......and dread the day I have to do the update, although they say it can be done with a flash drive.....

Sorry to hear about Mr Johnny Sheffield.....Bomba movies were some of my favorites as I was growing up, although even then they looked pretty cheap.

Mr Sheffield gave an interview talking about his days in Hollywood as Bomba. One of his friends was Mr Ben Chapman who later played The Creature From the Black Lagoon - on land..... Mr Chapman who was part Polynesian, did a dance act with his sister at a Hollywood night club - and sometimes Johnny would join them onstage.

That must have been QUITE a show.

In other news: do any of you domestic types have any ideas about how to clean/polish a marble tile floor? The foyer of our new house is marble, and it's gotten pretty badly scuffed over the past few months. Betsy is uptight about how to clean and polish it.
