STARTING HERE, STARTING NOW
« on: August 29, 2010, 11:38:42 PM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes started here, then started now, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - starting here, starting now they're supposedly on their way.

And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to former dear reader Hisaka, who, I believe, is back in Japan for the time being.

Good morning. And Happy Birthday to Hisaka, just in case she checks in.

TOD: Mom used to make doughnuts and, for me, there will never be any better. They were practically perfect when just removed from the fryer and coated hot with chocolate or white glaze. I once had her make a batch for me to take to class on my birthday, back in the days when kids did that.

Matthew S: Regarding your message from last night:
"Even though I haven't gotten around to watching Mad Men, I see that Robert Morse is on the series. I thought it would have been really cool if they called him J. Pierpont Finch and his wife's name would be Rosemary."

There are several parallels between Morse's character and J. Pierpont Finch. I think the New York Times did an article about that shortly after the show premiered.

TOD:

I don't really eat donuts any more, but when I did, I liked chocolate ones with sprinkles.

Before than, when I was a kid, I liked the glazed ones.

These days, I much prefer a cheese Danish, but I avoid those, too...unless they're put right in front of me.

Good morning, all! I woke at around 6:45, turned off the alarm and slept till 8am. I am feeling quite decent this morning.

Yesterday I went to a fabulous housewarming party for my friend, show collector extraordinaire Richard Norton, one of the producers of the musical EATING RAUL and Brad Fraser's UNIDENTIFIED HUMAN REMAINS AND THE TRUE NATURE OF LOVE, and his partner Gary on West 137th St. The townhouse they purchased is absolutely glorious: basement, rentable apartment a floor above that, first floor with a beautiful terrace in the back, and two more floors above. My studio suddenly seemed enormously tiny and I coveted all the space. There were many friends and wonderful folk I'd never met before, and I got to gossip a bit with Peter Filichia about numerous topics.

After that, I returned here, finished pricing the full scores in the McGlinnventory and today I will begin pricing the miniature scores. This afternoon at 3 pm I have an audition with Mr Anthony Morelli, and then I'm back to pricing scores.

My mother, when she was saner, made great donuts, which she fried in a huge cast iron skillet and then tossed with confectioner's sugar in a huge paper bag. She didn't make them often but they were mighty tasty. My memory is that while I was in the grades of 1-5 she made a lot of wonderful treats - cookies, pies, cakes, donuts and popcorn balls every Halloween - but after her final prgnancy and Randy's birth, she went slowly and steadily off the deep end.

My cousin Sue thinks she suffered from postnatal depression for the last sixty years of her life, but I think she was crazy with several lucid moments often too far apart from whatever was going on inside her mind. The two characters in fiction that most remind me of her are the title character of Shel Silverstein's "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" and Sally Durant Plummer in FOLLIES; perhaps that's why it's my favorite Sondheim show.

And on that depressing note, a more cheerful thought:

!!!!!!!!!!!! A Very Happy Birthday Today To Our E&T DR Hisaka !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday morning greetings!  I'm declaring my independence today by driving myself to cardiac rehab.  Haven't driven for almost 4 weeks, so I think it's time.

DR Laura, last night while I was watching SOUTH PACIFIC, every time Bloody Mary yelled "stingy bastard!" I thought of you. You should have auditioned to be her standby.

Actually it was Michael S who posted that last night :-)

Actually, no one makes my favorite donut--a Dunkin Donuts cream-filled type donut but instead stuffed with ice cream.

It's probably out there, somewhere...
