Good morning, all! I have a lot of things to do today, so I here I am. I have to get a couple of packages of Victor Herbert manuscripts ready for two copyists, more proofreading on THE ROSE OF ALGERIA scores, and I have an edit session with Skip Kennon. I work on Algeria first and head down to Toyland. Before my sessions with Skip, I want to go over all of the latest Babes In Toyland scores with my last edits to see if any redesigning of the harp parts was done behind my back. So far, they look good; they're certainly not as drastically redone as the harp for ]Lady of the Slipper I haven't decided my course of action yet, although at the present I am angry enough to leave the project.
So, on to pleasant things, like the TOD: both DR Ben and I have a huge affection for the Chad Mitchell Trio, and I credit them and the glorious Judy Collins for whatever plitical thinking I possess. I am also fond of the Weavers, Pete Seeger, Susan Reed, who recently died, Jean Ritchie who's the Real McCoy, Oscar Brand, Joan Baez, John Jacob Niles, whom I was lucky enough to see before he died, and two vanilla ice cream groups, The Kingston Trio and The new Christy Minstrels.
I never think of Woody Guthrie as a folk singer since he performed his own songs; I consider him a balladeer, like Bob Dylan, Eric Anderson, Ian Tyson, and the great Tom Paxton, who have all had their songs pass into the folk tradition and for all of whose music I have a great affection. I know I'm missing others, so I'll be curious to see who else turns up on the DR's lists.
