I noticed that the DGA is screening Red Cliff (tonight or tomorrow, can't remember now) - and it's this short US version for idiots. And that's what they're trying to get nominated of an Oscar. The film makes no sense, is missing 140 minutes of footage from the two-part original and is a travesty. As long as it took me to figure out who everyone was and their deals in the first one, once I got past that twenty minutes or so, I knew everything and then it was very easy to follow. By making these awful wholesale cuts (basically the first forty-five minutes that follow the first scene of the film are gone, maybe more. They try to help by putting in awful narration and on-screen title cards for characters, but it actually makes it harder to understand, and, of course, all motivations and history and character development are shot to hell. Shame on them. I just got the score CD and it's wonderful. I did notice that the Asian Blu-Ray release of the separate part one and two are all-region, so anyone can play them.
