Got more of July's Criterion releases today. Two Godard films (never seen either one of them) plus the Blu-ray of FOR ALL MANKIND.

I see that the Academy is going to have 10 Best Picture nominees this year. I think this is a STUPID change. They have a hard enough time ferreting out five nominees each year.

Sure, in the old days, they used to nominate 10, but back then, there were easily 10 films to fill those slots. They've been nominating only five since 1944. I see no reason to change, especially in an era where really good films are scarce, not abundant.

Speaking of salt.....Yesterday I had a gourmet, creamy sweet caramel with sea salt.  I did not care for the salty taste at all.

So...  The Governor of South Carolina was in Argentina? (not Appalachia).  ???

I saw that.  What an idiot.

From DR Cilla:
Quote
'm supposed to get a call from the fabricators/installers in the next two days.  They will come and make a template and then it's supposed to take 3 weeks to get to the install.  The installation of everything is supposed to only take one day.  I hope they are right.

It shouldn't even take a full day.  Just be sure they cut it with the template right side up.  Our bathroom was done upside down & they put it in anyway.  When we did the kitchen counters we used a different company who did a fabulous job.

We had new flooring installed in our downstairs bathroom soon after we moved into this house.  They also installed a plywood subfloor and cut the template for THAT out of the actual flooring.

Keith mentioned it & my first reaction was that they could have up to 10 nominees, not that they had to nominate that many.  My way seems more reasonable.  Keith said it is a marketing gimmick to get more people to see the nominated films.

Wonder if we could send our Ohio governor and his library budget cuts to Argentina?

Also the hope is that some more populist films (like last year's THE DARK KNIGHT or DREAMGIRLS from a few years ago) will get into the Best Picture group and thus hopefully increase the ratings of the broadcast.

Now, my afternoon surf is done, so I'm heading back to finish up with BURN NOTICE and then what else I can put my hands on to watch for fun.

Thanks DR DAW.  I told Keith we must take these for Laura.  Honestly they are so beautiful I was surprised not to see other people taking photos of the floors.

DR MattH, as much as I like The Young & The Restless, it is just average right now. I know you were interested in the new gay storyline. But i don't think that will be coming up for a while (my guess is with either nina's son phillip or her non-dead husband phillip).

The actor who plays adam is changing this week (which sucks to me), but the story that involves him and a gay kiss is most likely only a heterosexual gay trying to prey on his gay lawyer. Not sure if that interests you.

A "heterosexual gay"?  ???

I have met a lot of those.
