Good morning!

Quite cool this morning but an otherwise beautiful day here. Beautiful light blue sky and lots of sunshine. It is breezy, though, and one needs a jacket to stay outside for long.

I read the ANYA booklet last night before turning out the lights. I really enjoyed Walter Willison's liner notes and the backstage stories he had to offer.

There were a couple of fact gaffes, however. Laurence Guittard did not win the Tony for A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. George S. Irving won for IRENE that year, ironically mentioned by Walter elsewhere in his notes. Obviously, he had forgotten that the two men were competing against each other for the Tony that year.

Hanya Holm did not win the Tony for choreographing MY FAIR LADY. Michael Kidd won that year for bk's beloved LI'L ABNER.

Far be it from me to tell you your business, bk, but you've got a forum here of folks who are very knowledgeable about theater and film (as you yourself are). You might want to have some of us fact check liner notes for you if you're amenable to the idea. It's just a suggestion. I just hate having anything going out with your name on it that isn't as perfect as it can be.

Great story/profile on John Cullum this morning on NPR. -He's currently in two shows in NYC right now. One On-Broadway and one Off-Broadway. At the same time!!!

Since I have watched all of my review items, I have the entire weekend to myself. I have some shows on the DVR that I'll watch as I eat lunches over the weekend, but I'm eager to dive into the Blu-ray pile that's ever-increasing. If THE ROBE will arrive today (PLEASE!), I'll watch that tonight. If not, I'll start on ALEXANDER - THE FINAL CUT. That will probably take all evening since it's so long.

Tomorrow, I may get to THE WILD BUNCH, '21,' or TROY - THE DIRECTOR'S CUT all on Blu-ray. I haven't seen THE WILD BUNCH in decades and never, obviously, in high definition.

Just a reminder that those who missed this week's CASTLE or want to check it out, ABC is rebroadcasting its second episode tonight at 10 p.m.

CAT BALLOU comes on TCM tonight. I haven't seen that in decades either.

DR JRand,

Criterion released BRUTE FORCE on DVD last year, and I watched (and reviewed) it and was quite spellbound by it. It's a marvelous film.

Guess it's time for me to head downstairs and check the mail (with fingers crossed) and then start on preparing some lunch.

That's a little disturbing about the incorrect facts - and I've learned my lesson - I did no fact-checking because Walter was having a very knowledgeable theater writer proofing every comma, every period, every line - I guess he didn't proof the CONTENT.  So, from now on, either I write the liners as I do for the soundtracks, and as I'm doing for Illya, or I fact check myself, which is a pain but I'll do it.

I got up in plenty of time to do the long jog, but it's really gray out and looks like it's going to rain, and I don't want to take the chance that I'll be two miles in and it will start pouring.

This morning was devoted to the chorus girls. This afternoon will be devoted to "Little Old Lady Land". -Pray for Rosemary's baby.

Dear Kerry,   she'll lick him to death (is Sugar just a wonderfully sweet dog?) that's what I pictured when I read this.

Dear Matt H.  I'd love to see Cat Ballou tonight, but I don't pay for cable. I can't seem to sit for more than a couple of hours a week to watch something.  I don't have a clue as to why other than lately I'm a really fidgety person.

See you tonight.  Hope everyone has a wonderful 2nd day of Spring.

And it looks like that's the first DVD release, with the 13-part version.  As I "broke" the news in my review of the recently reissued version, the new one, despite having minimally better image and audio, contains what was evidently a BBC version, with only 12 episodes.  The editing in the first two episodes is pretty bad, IMHO.

I am now listening to a live recording of the original Broadway production of Follies (including dialogue). I think Follies is my favorite Sondheim score including the all the cut songs.

The only song I don't have is The World's Full Of Boys/The World's Full Of Girls
