The dinner at Center Cut in the Edison Hotel was a lot of fun! Bruce Pomahac is one of my favorite people and we dished and laughed through a wonderful meal begnning with cocktails: he had a mojito and I had a concoction of apple cider and several other choice ingredients called on the menu "La Vie en Rosemary." For starters Brice had a lettuce/tomator salad and I had Manhattan clam chowder. He had steak and I had smoked salmon with asparagus and potatoes dauphinoise. For dessert we had bananas foster. Yum

I'm up and happy to say I did not get out of bed from the time I went to sleep till a few minutes ago.  It looks like a gorgeous day outside.  I awoke to no wireless signal but instead of getting upset to the point of wanting to hurl the modem and Airport Extreme out the window, instead of doing The BK Panic, I simply unplugged the modem and the Airport Extreme, went about my business, plugged them both back in and was on the Internet instantly.  And that's the way I'm going to handle problems this year, baby.

Good for you, Bruce! Save all that stress for something else!

Uh, maybe not the best idea.  You know how he has problems with driving in LA.

Good Evening!

I had a great time at MoMA this afternoon.  It truly was a great way to start off the New Year, and I even ran into a friend of mine who was there with some of her friends - who happened to be currently studying Art at my alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University.  -And so on, and so on, and so on.. ;)

The pork and saurkraut is resting.

The Hoppin' John is cooking.

Now, all I need is to get der B off the couch so he can make his mashed potatoes.

The store totally sold out of real potatoes, or I'd make them for him.

Instead, he's going to have mashed potatoes from potato buds.

I refuse to touch the stuff, food snob that I am.  Bleh.

I think I'll go see what the Mummers are up to.

I wonder if Craig & Ioana went.  They figured they could walk over & watch the parade.  When we lived in Ivyland, PA we never went to the parades in the city.

DR JRand, TWO FOR THE ROAD is one of our favorite movies.
Bruce, Keith & I were working at the Bruin Theater when it showed.  As far as we knew it was very well received.  I loved being able to watch it over & over.

DR Druxy, Albert Finny’s version is my favorite SCROOGE.

Hello, everyone.
My news: I am now the proud owner--oops, I mean--I am NO LONGER the proud owner of a 1820 townhouse. Yes, we reached the settlement table, but only after a last-minute hiccup, which sent one of my buyers into a tailspin. But all got put right and we signed and settled. I will now rent back for a few weeks, then move.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Now what?

I didn't find the monkey strange at all.

I don't think anyone found the monkey "strange", DR Jennifer. However, I think some of the people on the subway and just off of Times Square may have found me strange for taking pictures of said monkey. But, then again, I already know I'm strange.

ROTFLOL! :)

And while I was sprawled out on the gallery floors today in MoMA, well...  But I think it was worth it.  Anything for my monkey. ;)

Thanks, Jane.  It's always a lovely party, but (and maybe it's in my mind) when you're sniffling and coughing at a big party, I sometimes feel like people are thinking "Oh no, I'm going to catch that cold if I shake his hand or hug him hello."

I mentioned your consideration to a friend today after she complained about the person sneezing & coughing throughout her New Years Eve movie experience.

Thanks for the information regarding the apartment, DR JOSE.  I hope to someday marry well, too.  But as the years go by, the hopes dim.

I'm not the only one who thinh
I enjoyed the movie.  I haven't read the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story that it's based on, but I have read The Confessions of Max Tivoli which is similar and a book that really stuck with me after I read it.

Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this

http://www.publishersweekly.com/blog/90000609/post/1750037975.html

Very interesting.  I will have to read more about the two books.  I never read Fitzgerald's short story.  We went with friends to see the movie today.  The thought of a 2hr 45 min, 3 hrs if you include the previews, Brad Pitt film wasn't all that appealing to Keith & me.  We all liked the movie very much & were impressed with the make-up & special effects.  Cate Blanchard was wonderful as we usually find her.  The big surprise was the superb acting by Brad Pitt.

Jane - It actually worked out reasonably for me.

The Anderson Cooper-Kathy Griffin show made homebound on New Year's Eve a lot more bearable.

Back from a wonderful party at Mr. Barry Pearl's home environment.  I knew quite a few people, met some nice people I didn't know, and had some excellent foodstuffs.  I actually was a very GOOD boy in terms of the main food - I had one little piece of brisket, which couldn't have been more than two ounces, some homemade cole slaw (really good), one fried chicken wing (small), and that was it.  I did that because I'd already had a gander at the desserts, and I knew that I was going to make my main meal the desserts rather than the food.  So, I had a tiny piece of chocolate bundt cake (may have been flourless - it was very light), with whipped cream, some sort of small bar of something good (chocolate and maybe some sort of fruit), and, best of all, a sliver of a chocolate peanut butter cheese cake, with whipped cream.  I stayed longer than I normally do, about three hours, and then I came home.  I was then feeling very guilty about not jogging on the first day of the New Year, and since my knee was feeling much better, I decided to do the long jog.  It's the first time I've done the long jog after dark - I don't like it as much, although I must say it was fairly easy, I did it more briskly, and my knee didn't really give me any problems at all.  But some of my route is not well-lit at night, and I don't love running under a dark freeway underpass.  But I'm really glad I did it.

While I was jogging, I came up with four really good things to add to the pages I did this morning.  I'll probably save that for the morning's writing, since I know exactly what it is and where it goes and it's always good to start a day's writing knowing what you're doing.  I wrote it all out in longhand, so all I'll have to do is insert it where it belongs, then carry on from where I left off.  The best thing is I came up with the last line for the chapter, whenever I get to it.  It's just what I was looking for.

And lastly, I resolve not to slip away from HHW again.  I forget sometimes what a truly special and wonderful group of people you are.  TCB said it best, I can't improve on that, but I wanted to add that I agree with him wholeheartedly.

This is very good news :)

I guess I'm in the minority: I always hated the film SCROOGE.

I never cared for it until I saw Albert Finny as SCROOGE.
