I may be doing a kind of fun gig (they have little to no money, so they must meet my imperious salary demands before I agree, LOL).  A bunch of Second City alum have moved to PDX and are doing an improvised musical and they need a MD who can play in a traditional Broadway style whilst making it up as he goes along.  Sounds like fun, and would circumvent one of the main things I hate about doing shows--playing the same stuff over and over and over.

On TV tonight is the premiere on HBO of TRUE BLOOD, the vampire series adapted by Oscar and Emmy-winning Alan Ball.

ENTOURAGE begins its new season tonight. I wasn't going to watch as I thought last season was very poor, but TV GUIDE's Matt Roush has seen the first several episodes and claims the show is rebounding from a bad last season. So I guess I will record it and watch later in the week.

I'll be back in Miami today with Horatio, Calleigh, Eric, Ryan, Frank, and Natalia for most of the day. Will only stop to watch TRUE BLOOD around 10 p.m. or so.

I read that the eastern part of the state got about 6 inches of rain from Hanna. We got .01 inch of rain. What a difference a few miles can make with one of these storms.

That make me very concerned about our friends who just returned to their boat in the Portsmouth, VA, area.

Yesterday in the afternoon the rains came. They weren't bad and in Manhattan it was nothing more than a long rainstorm but now that Hanna has gonna it's a beautiful Sunday in New York (Bobby Darrin).

Good morning, all! I am up and moving about but still very sleepy. Perhaps I'll pull a DR MBarnum and lounge on the sofa all day.

Actually, today I have to talk to the copyist on the Jerome Moross project, pick up a CD from Kip Wilborn, write a bit aboutCinderella and Victor Herbert, and vacuum the apartment.

Beyond that, who knows?

Eeek! I have several days of ketchup, but before doing so, I wanted to wish William E. Lurie a very happy birthday!

Thanks for the weather vibes. They worked for us...we haven't even had a drop of rain.

I hope the weather will be good next weekend; I'm taking my brother on a short trip---I've been worried about him; he really needs a break in his routine a big way.

We could offer you the chair. (A Chad Mitchell Trio reference)

I've finished all my Vicotr Herbert updates, I'm happy to say, and now I have to phone a copyist and good friend about Jerome Moross.

After that, back to the Moross edits.

bk, congratulations on your continued weight loss. Your determination and discipline are inspiring. I have made much slower progress so I don't need a belt yet. (Well, maybe a gin and tonic...)

Although you will now look hip and urbane in your baggy shorts, be careful running in them. Look what happened in Atlanta:

Dear Elmore, I have been thinking of you many times every day. I'm glad you are coping with your diagnosis with such good humor. We have diabetes in my family and folks like my mom's brother have coped with it very well by following the doctor's orders and their own research.

Of course, they didn't have friends as sweet as Jose, but they've managed!

Allright! DR Jose found the Cheerwine! I think Cheerwine is like Budwine, which we drank while I was in college. It sounds like something you *would* drink in college, but it's really just a soft drink.

Oh, Budwine was made in Athens, GA, where I went to college (UGA) so I guess that's why we drank it!

Thank you, DR Edi!  This feels a lot like 23 years ago when I left a good job to be a stay-at-home mom, except I'm much more financially secure now.  In that 12 years, opportunities came to me that prepared me for this last third of my public employment tenure.

Your noon-time hurricane update:

And, for Jane, the wordified version:

IKE's track stays south as it moves over Hispaniola and Cuba, temporarily weakening in strength - thus all of Florida, save the Keys, appears out of danger.

By 8Am Tuesday, Ike should be entering the Gulf of Mexico as a CAT 1

If by 8AM Wednesday, Ike is still on track, Florida will be safe and the Gulf Coast in real trouble!

By 8AM Friday, Ike is predicted to be back up to CAT 3 and be off the coast of LA
