I sent in money for Katrina relief- it's called Federal Income Tax.

The literacy problem is a local event that requires a local solution.

Since I fear that most of my income tax goes to a war in Iraq I neither support nor approve, I sent my Katrina money to the Red Cross.

I think if "news" items are posted here, as they so often are, I think it only natural to expect some reaction/commentary from those who actually read it.

I could have better protected myself if I had posted the AP link and not just made the summary comment.

The new season for the networks other than Fox is still a few weeks away, so the major features on new shows in TV GUIDE and ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY I'd think will happen in a week or two. TV GUIDE usually breaks it into an issue on returning shows and an issue featuring the new ones. Certainly I'm keeping my eyes open.

I found out that Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and America's Next Top Model (CW shows) all start next week.

I think i remember from last year that is no longer a TV Guide in canada. So i guess i won' t be getting the magazine.

If there are any news shows that are supposed to be must see please post about them.

I think i will try the new 90210 (which starts on tues). And there is a mid-season show called Dollhouse which i will definitely watch.

re: big brother without giving anything away to spoil last night's show for DR MBarnum.

I think that people's opinions of the players are mostly set. If you liked dan before, you will probably still like him. If you liked ollie or jerry before, you will probably still like them.

I sent my Katrina money to the Red Cross.

I'm sure your money helped pay the Director's $450,000 salary.

Speaking of Raymond Cruz, I meant to mention last night that I was surprised to see him among the mercinaries in CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER along with Benjamin Bratt. I hadn't remembered that either of them were in the movie. Great surprise, and Raymond gave another very strong performance.

While I cooked and ate lunch, I was in the mood for a musical so I put on the Blu-ray of HAIRSPRAY. That music is just so infectious! Just love "Welcome to the 60s" and "You Can't Stop the Beat." I watched each of them several times.

Then I watched THE EXECUTIONER'S SONG. Good performances (Tommy Lee Jones won the Emmy that year against Anthony Andrews and Jeremy Irons in BRIDESHEAD REVISTED and Richard Chamberlain in THE THORN BIRDS; I think the wrong person won), but the direction is rather stodgy and Norman Mailer's screenplay, at least in this director's cut, muddles into mush the appeals section of the story.

So, it's a pretty good movie, but seems like I remember lots of excitement and discussion about the movie when it aired, and seeing this, I don't quite understand why.

I went ahead and broke open the PERRY MASON set to get a head start on reviewing that. I watched the first case and enjoyed it. Nice being with "old friends" again. The transfer looked very nice. It's from the 1959-1960 season, so it's quite old but looks excellent.

My goodness. The next three Criterion discs ended up on my doorstep this afternoon. I'm going to be a very busy bee over the next few weeks with lots of last season's TV box sets arriving and these Criterion discs showing up, too.

Welcome back to NYC, Ginny and Richard!

Thanks, DR Jose!  When can we get together for the Midwest continuation of your birthday celebration?

Glad to hear my luncheon partners are in town.

Let me know what time is good for you tomorrow. I'm very flexible. If you want to meet a bit early, say 11:30 or 11:45 we can beat the lunch rush at Chat and Chew. You know where I work so you don't need directions  ;D

See ya tomorrow!

Hi, DR Ben!  I have to pick up some things at the FC front desk, so why don't we plan to get there about 11:30 - can they call you when we get there?  We're depending on bus transportation, so our timing might not be exact, but we'll do our best.

I know DR Elmore is otherwise engaged, but wonder if anyone else would like to join us?

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

As you may have guessed, DH Richard and I are back at our apartment for a little rest before our evening begins.  We had a quick lunch at Europa Cafe and I waited there while he went into the subway for our Metro cards.  We then took the bus up to Lincoln Center to pick up our South Pacific tickets, had a pick-me-up at Starbucks, and took the bus back here.  I'm icing my foot and Richard's taking a nap.

Thanks, DR George!  It's not really painful anymore, just swollen and achy.  The ice helps with the swelling and feels good, too!

That's not the story I've been reading at Television Without Pity...several folks on there have been very vocal about now hating folks they used to like and liking folks they used to hate.

In today's mail:

"The Music Behind the Magic: The Musical Artistry of Alan Menken, Howard Ashman & Tim Rice".

WOW! What a treasure.  And at just over $12 including shipping, I think I made out like a BANDIT.

It's an LP-sized box with four CDs and a large booklet.  Holy Mackerel!

DR Jane, we missed you and were thinking about you and Keith. Continued comfort vibes to you!

Thank you.  It is very strange in so many little ways, let alone the large ones.

In the mist of this my very dear friend is suffering from complications due to  brain surgery the morning of my mother in-laws funeral.  The surgery was a success, now I'm praying she fully recovers from the complications.  I'm very scared right now.

I've made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon to see my doctor, who doesn't seem capable of putting together symptoms as quickly as DRs Ben, Jose, and MBarnum, and I will ask him to test me for diabetes type 2. I think the ultrasound is important to rule out drastic stomach concerns, but I honestly believe it's diabetes. We'll see.

Welcome back, Nursie!

Thank you.  I hope you don't have any kind of drastic stomach problem, or diabetes 2.  I'm glad you are getting both tests done.  Vibes it is something on the mild side.

One of Keith's cousin's just lost tons of weight & her diabetes symptoms are just about gone.

I prefer to think that my donation helped to set up and staff a shelter somewhere.

I have worked in Red Cross shelters. They pay our expenses to get there, but our time is donated.

Taking "Blame The Victim" to new heights:

Critics Slam Elizabeth Edwards for Silence on Husband's Affair

How ridiculous!  I know I wouldn't want to shout something like that to the world, maybe not to anyone. That is if I made the decision to stay in the marriage.
