Anybody going to Birdland tonight?
The words and stories of William Shakespeare have been cherished, imitated and immortalized in song by artists for generations -musicals like West Side Story, Kiss Me Kate and The Boys From Syracuse all draw their inspiration from the writer's most timeless plays. Now, three young guys make their New York cabaret debut at Birdland with an original, hilarious and ultimately compelling look at the world of music based on the Bard's work. Some you'll know, some you won’t – from hits, flops, the unreleased and even the unfinished, join the GUYTUNES for an unforgettable night, as they Sing Shakespeare! The GUYTUNES are a unique new cabaret act comprised of Nick Blaemire (Off Broadway's Altar Boyz), Justin Keyes (Broadway's The Apple Tree) and Jason Michael Snow (Goodspeed Opera House's The Pirates of Penzance). These three fresh, up and coming performers are making quite a joyful noise on the cabaret circuit, full of "strong, clear voices," "adventurous choices in material," and "sharp stage presence." After selling out a critically acclaimed, extended run at the prestigious Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA, the GUYTUNES are ready to take New York by storm. If you're ready to hear your favorite songs revitalized, and be introduced to new ones you'll never forget, come hear some GUYTUNES!

Why, that IS a unique concept - at least I thought so when I did the CD Shakespeare on Broadway. :)

The meeting was long and boring, but everyone got their points across, especially about all the extra costs we're all going to incur.  I gotta tell you.  But I have a great tech director (he's doing two other shows at the Acorn) who really has gone to bat for us and won us all of our important needs, including wig mics rather than those atrocities that run along the cheek, and being able to get rid of a scrim that all the other shows seem to want, so that we can project onto the cyc - projecting through a scrim ONTO a cyc would look distorted, so that was an important battle.

I did see Skip when I arrived and peeked in on the meeting previous to ours, but by the time we headed to the room Skip had skipped out.  Skip's very own B.D. Wong, who's directing one of the shows at the Acorn, was there, but before I could say hello, he, too, skipped out - he was on the As Thousands Cheer CD.

86 degrees and low humidity in DakotaLand

77 and far less humidity than is normal for August in NYC

(And you hear some people complaining!)

Waiting to hear from Miss Patti so we can set up our meeting and meal.  I think after dinner that I'll stay home this fine evening and watch some television, IF I can find a good film on TCM or something.  Are there any Sunday night shows people especially like on network or cable (he hasn't got HBO or Showtime, so those are out).  Want to be completely rested for rehearsal tomorrow.

I think I've decided where I want to eat - a little jernt across from where Skip and FJL reside - a nice little place with tables outside and in and a good-sounding but not too expensive menu.  The name has gone out of my head, but I'm sure FJL can figure it out - it's right on the corner of Tenth and 43rd, same side of the street and across from his apartment building.

Will we never get to page eight?  Of course, it's only nine LA time so eight pages would be rather astonishing.

Certainly.

It got just as hot as they predicted, and right now, the chance for rain doesn't seem promising. There are clouds, but they don't look like storm clouds at all.

However, the most astounding thing I've ever seen on a video set was on disc five -  a game called Matt's Mind Reader (Matt Parkman is a character on the show who can read people's thoughts.)

(All of these things are done in your head. You enter no codes into the DVD player. The only thing you ever hit is the enter key to go to the next screen) You start with a two digit number. You add the two digits together and subtract it from the original number. You find the picture of the hero that matches the number you've arrived at in your head. You hit the answer key, and there pops up the picture of the hero you had in your head.

I'm telling you, it's ASTOUNDING! I don't know HOW it knew which number I had in my mind to start with or to end up with and I tried the game three times and it got the answer correct (three different numbers and three different heroes) every single time.

IT FREAKED ME OUT!!

Tonight I will have the two remaining episodes to watch. I'll have the bonus featurettes (there are several of them, but I don't think any of them run any longer than ten minutes). Then, I'll go back to disc 1 and watch the unaired pilot of the show.

And then I will be finished with the set.

Well, I'm heading down now to clean the master bathroom, put away the already folded laundry, and then get back to the home theater. With some luck, I might be able to see MONK (off the DVR) or ENTOURAGE ("live" off HBO) tonight.
