No, have some other things to tidy up around here before I think about tidying MYSELF up for lunch and the rest of the day.

I'd love to see that Frank Loesser biography. I had no idea he grew to dislike "Baby" especially since it earned him an Oscar. Since the Tonys weren't generous to him as a songwriter, I think he'd be thrilled with this major award for his efforts.

From what I recall, he initially fought using the song in a movie.  He had written it for him and his (first) wife to perform.  It was a basically a gift to her in a sense.  It was not a song he had intended to make money from.  Apparently, they and the song had become so popular, that there were times when they were invited to parties with the hope that "Baby" would get performed at one point in the evening.  Loesser began to tire of it.  And then as his first marriage came to an end...

BK ~ They had pipes breaking down in Phoenix over the weekend -- Phoenix, the Valley of the Sun, mind you!  So be glad they only froze in LA....It's maddening, I know, but broken is so much worse...

If these people would show up on time, we wouldn't have to keep continuing these meetings.

Here's the website for the Loesser documentary:

Heart & Soul: The Life and Music of Frank Loesser

*I got a particular kick while watching it since a bunch of the interviews were shot in DC with DC theatrical professionals.  And Arena Stage gets a passing nod via it's productions of Guys & Dolls and Seņor Discretion Himself.

One good thing--at least Jake Gyllenhaal has somewhat lessened the stigma of spontaneously breaking out into a rendition of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going".

...somewhat...

I'm up, I'm up.  No frozen pipes this morning.  I did leave one faucet on during the evening, but it probably wasn't necessary.

I'm very tempted to head to Splash to see if they'll be showing the SNL clip in addition to the Dreamgirls Tony Awards clip tonight.  -"And I Am Telling You" usually signals the end of Musical Mondays... And then they use the dance mix video of "I Just Wanna F***ing Dance" from Jerry Springer - The Opera to transition back to the dance floor.  ;)

Well, DR Elmo, you missed it!  I was on -- where were you?  "Whose Life" is over (no pun intended) and it's time to head to the theatre and dismantle costumes.  I'll attempt to play HHW net tag with you another day....Adios, all

Re: last night's GREASE

They didn't show that much of Juliana.  But from what they did show you could tell that the judges liked her a lot.  She is one of the 50 finalists (25 women) who went through to Grease academy.  And i would expect her to be one of the 12 finalists who go on to the public voting.

They only showed her singing one line (from "hopelessly devoted to you" i think). The british judge said she had star quality.  Then during the dancing she was the one wearing the tightfit white outfit. And they made some really good comments about her.  Then at the end after the HAIRSPRAY guy Austin Miller got through they showed that juliana got through.

I really think that people who have been in broadway tours like austin and juliana will have a huge advantage. Because obviously they are good singers and dancers and actors. I expect many of the amateurs will struggle especially in the acting department. So i would be surprised (shocked) if austin didn't make it.

As for last night's show i really liked that blonde ashley (i think she was the one who they gave 3 chances to). And i was completely fed up with the girlfriend who dumped her boyfriend after she did not get through. He was not very good (and got though). She was a bit better.

I really liked what they did show of juliana. And i think the really good stuff should start next week (when they show the 50 best go through boot camp). That is always my favorite part of american idol (watching the 100+ best audition).

One Murphy leaves, and another Murphy joins the fray.  Glad to see my reclusive mother has returned in fine form.

I very much like "DR Elmo" as a new nickname for you, Lar, but I'm afraid if I start using that, some of my old nicknames might start leaking out (courtesy of my mom...).

I think it's fairly obvious that Juliana will be in the show IF there's a show, and same with the guy from Hairspray.  The fact that anyone is watching this crap is the most amazing thing of all - but it's why these things stay on the air.  On other boards there's post after post how this particular show is the nadir of television - but they watch and they watch.
