PennyO - there are no Sunday performances of The Brain.  The show runs December 8 to December 16, with performances on Friday, Saturday (matinee and evening), Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (matinee and evening) and Saturday (matinee and evening).  All shows at 8:00 except Wednesday and Thursday, which is 7:15.  Matinees are at two, except Friday, which is at one.

Interesting thoughts from Ellen Burstyn (from imdb.com news).

Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn has slammed the state of contemporary drama, calling for actors to seek training before taking on stage and screen roles. The Requiem For A Dream actress is disgusted by falling standards in Hollywood and on Broadway, and blames the influence of television on their demise. She says, "I am appalled. I saw a couple of things (on Broadway) that were billed as good, but they were shockingly bad. I can't recommend anything on Broadway. I think (acting) needs some help. TV has lowered the bar. With quicker schedules everything is rushed, so the quality gets lowered." Burstyn famously won an Emmy nomination earlier this year for a 14 second cameo in television drama Mrs. Harris.

Just using DH Richard's computer to check in for a quick HI before our guests start arriving.  My computer had to be taken offline because my internet cable presents a traffic hazard when we have a crowd.  Our turkey is about an hour from being done and the house is smelling good.

Blessings for the day to everyone - back after the extravaganza!

Oh, I forgot the TOD - the Thanksgiving I mentioned yesterday - 1977 in NYC - is one of my most memorable.  When Becky and I went to the Macy's parade we stood next to a family from New Jersey and the mom wanted to adopt us for the holiday.  From Wednesday-Saturday, here are the shows we saw:

I Love My Wife
Side by Side by Sondheim
A Chorus Line
For Colored Girls...
The Wiz

Thanksgiving weekend 1980 is also memorable, because that's when Richard and I went to my parents' in Michigan as bride-and-groom-to-be (January 1981).  In addition to Thanksgiving dinner with my family, there were a couple of pre-nuptual parties for us and it was a lot of fun.  The day my matron of honor had a personal shower for me (girls only), Richard and my dad held down the fort in my mom's bookstore.

DH DerBrucer, in Detroit (where I grew up), Thanksgiving also meant the arrival of Santa, courtesy of J. L. Hudson department store.  I was appalled this year when Santa arrived at our local mall on November 11 - that's too early and it's Veterans' Day.

And back then, Santa probably still had brown hair.

As World AIDS Day approaches (Dec. 1), we are reminded that millions of people need our help with the AIDS pandemic, but we often think, "What can I do?"

Here is one simple way you can help, and it costs you nothing but a moment and a mouse click.

Bristol Myers Squibb will donate $1 for every person who goes to their web site and lights a candle to fight AIDS, up to a max of $100,000 (chump change for them, but we'll take it). At this point, the counter is just over 30,000... so we need many more candles lit.

Please go to this link to light a candle... and help spread the light.

The nasty deed is done!

8 Boxes of DR. Who stuff from DDDVD on order!

I guess I should give thanks to those who turned me on to the sale (saved an added $38) and blame Jose (who else!) for tempting me to spend the money.

Interesting...I just lit the candle and it said that the number of candles lit was 31,324.  Hmmm.

But I lit the candle. :)

As for the Topic of the Day:  Thanksgiving isn't really a memorable day for me.  Because my family (parents, sister, sister's boyfriend, niece) live so close together, we see each other all the time.  When other family members have visited (my dad's sisters from California or my mom's family from Germany), it's usually been during the summers when the weather is nice.  Another reason is that I don't really like turkey. :P But it's a couple of days off from work (and this year rehearsal), so that's good. ;)

Well, I'm off to my sister's house.  My niece's paternal grandmother lives right next door to them and her aunt (father's sister) and her husband live right across the street, so they're all very close, as well.  My niece's father (my ex-brother-in-law) lives only 10 or so miles away, so he's close, also.

Have a great day, everyone!!

Have had a full day of TV/DVDs. I began with a MURDER SHE WROTE episode. This one concerned an Indian with a long ago land grant which gave him rights to all of Cabot Cove. This episode was just on the Biography channel last week (I stumbled on it, but I didn't hang around to watch.) I guess they are showing Season 4 episodes now.

Next came a CSI: MIAMI episode from its boxed set concerning the murder of a teenaged girl on a class trip heading for the Bahamas. Obviously, she never got there. Lots of suspects in this one, but once they made themselves known, the murderer wasn't too hard to spot.

Next came last night's episode of THE NINE, and I was glad to see much more about the hostage situation which also is starting to give some information as to why certain characters' relationships changed during that 52 hours.

Last night's CSI: NY involved the death of a man by pigeons. Further investigation revealed that the pigeons were dead, too and this led to another murder.

Nice to see John Wesley Shipp as one of the principal guest stars. even though he's aged significently from his glory years as a soap star (two Emmys), THE FLASH, and even his run as Dawson's father on DAWSON'S CREEK.

In the mood for James Bond, I put in Timothy Dalton's first foray into 007: THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS. I only got about 20 minutes in but will continue it when I go back down later.

On my second DVD - The Conformist.

Had a nice call from my daughter - she got her How To Write A Dirty Book and Other Stories and of course went directly to the final story - she said she had to stop reading it about seven pages in because it was very emotional for her - she'll finish it this weekend.

I started THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS last night before toddling off to bed!  Will continue with it tonight following BUFFY'S Season Four's Episode, PANGS (a true Thanksgiving treat).

We've certainly been on the same wavelength for the last week or so. Is that TWILIGHT ZONE music I'm hearing in the background?  :D

Just had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner, the guests for which included elmore, BK's Last starfighter co-star Brian Earp (who shlepped in from Yale to join us), BK's Last Starfighter co-star Paul Jackel and his DP Jason P, Dear friend Mary Jay, and Dear friend Milla.

Elmore left a bit earlier than everyone else, something about having to get to work on The Brain or some excuse like that.  :)
