It never even remotely warmed up here, and with a chilly breeze blowing, well, it DID feel like fall when I was out and about. Wonder if it'll stay this way for a few days or will we go back to moderately high temperatures?

The "mysterious" WhiteSheik has sent me another typo:I guess there is no "but"s about it, I'm a STICKLER.

der Brucer (P.I.T.A.)

Good thing I'm NOT a stickler or I would have pointed out DerBrucer's error in his post at 9:27 yesterday, wherein he clearly meant to say "do" instead of "to". Or his post of 2:37pm of Nov. 1, when he misspelled "uncivilized." A stickler might note this alarming trend of two errors in two days, but I never would  ;)

I watched two episodes to finish the first disc in the CSI: NY boxed set. The first involved a death by pool cue.

The next involved the death of a debutante under mysterious circumstances. Both of these episodes featured (then) new cast member Anna Belknap who fit in amazingly well with a seasoned ensemble.

Next I watched ROBERTA from the Astaire-Rogers box. ROBERTA has never looked very good on TV showing, and this transfer has some light scratches and is grainier than I would have expected. Fred and Ginger don't get to do as much together as they do in their other starring vehicles of the time. Ginger, however, is so glamorous and chic in the movie that she makes poor Irene Dunne look plain in comparison to her.

Ginger comes out in a gold lame gown during the first version of "I Won't Dance," and she is simply stunning. The number turns into a solo for Fred, of course, and we never see GInger in that dress again, but she is a real knockout in it.

I hate to admit it, but I do prefer the 1952 version of ROBERTA entitled LOVELY TO LOOK AT more than this version. Though at their best Astaire and Rogers are unbeatable as a team, I have to admit that Marge and Gower Champion's dance version of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" in LOVELY TO LOOK AT is head and shoulders above Fred and Ginger's version in this film.

Powerful ‘Kiss’

Quote
From movie to musical, Oscar and Tony-winning ‘Spider Woman’ returns

‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’
Through Nov. 25
Onstage Atlanta

Brian Porter (right) says that playing Molina to Luke Dreiling’s Valentin requires subtlety.

Perhaps Edisaurus can report back on the "subtlety".

I finished my afternoon's viewing with "Stalit Days at the Lido," an early Technicolor short on the ROBERTA disc.

Obviously Natalie Kalmus made sure there was plenty of blue in this short to show that three strip Technicolor could reproduce blue beautifully (two strip Technicolor couldn't produce blue). Second and third tier stars of the time like Cliff Edwards, Arthur Lake, Buster Crabbe, Ben Turpin, Johnny Mack Brown, Francis Lederer, and others make appearances, and we even see a quick shot of Gable with his much older wife Rhea seated at a table.

OK...I'm sorry if I've posted these lyrics before. They are from Roy Zimmerman, a political singer/songwriter in the tradiiton of Tom Lehrer---biting wit and supernal wordplay.

I think many DR's would enjoy his song, "Defenders of Marriage".

Here's a snippet from his website, www.royzimmerman.com:

http://snipurl.com/defenders

and the lyrics:

Defenders of Marriage
words and music by Roy Zimmerman
© 1998 Watunes (BMI)
(From Comic Sutra - Live at Luna Park)

Every time we think about same-sex marriage
Makes us sick to our guts
I mean, two people who want to commit to a stable monogamous life-long relationship
What are they, nuts?
It's unnatural!
Now a man should not lie with a person who is a guy
He should only lie to his wife, the bible is clear
We're —
Defenders of marriage
In three-button suits
We'll raise our double standard and see who salutes
Defenders of marriage
Defending the institution against people who want to get married

Every time we hear about same-sex parents
"Oh, my gosh!" we exclaim
I mean, two people who want to provide a protective and nurturing family environment
Have they no shame?
It's so deviant!
It's the Lord's holy word, as my second wife said to my third
That a family's based on obligation and fear
We're —
Defenders of marriage
Connubial narcs
Ever vigilant and patriotic patriarchs
Defenders of marriage
Defending the institution against people who want to get married

One summer evening when my woman was doing laundry
I shared a six-pack with an old John Bircher
And oh so wisely he imparted an ancient quandary, to ponder
He said, "It's nature versus legislature."
Spoken: Are people born gay, or do they turn gay just to piss off Dick Armey?

We're an army of dicks
With a militant stance
Let's get the government out of our lives and into our pants
Defenders of marriage
Defending the institution against people who want to get married
And have their insurance carried
And be beneficiary'd
And be next to the ones they love when they are buried

I was so pleased to read that one of my favorite new shows, Showtime's DEXTER, has been renewed for another season of episodes. It has become Showtime's most watched program.

I think I'll go with conspiracy:

Heterosexual men oppose gay marriage because they fear it will remove their "boy friends" from circulation.

Has anyone heard of GrooveLily's STRIKING 12?

They are trying it out this weekend in Fairmont, MN at the Fairmont Opera House. How unusual is that? Some of my family is going, I'm really curious to see what they think

Or, possibly, they (many of them) fear an ultra-high standard of commitment and adherence to vows and family values that they would be hard-pressed to live up to.

Oppression exists because someone who might change the status quo and shift power from the "ins" has emerged and declared himself or herself.

I'm back from a lovely day in Oxford, Ohio.  I had a wonderful lunch with the former chair of the theatre dept who's moved up to a dean's position and the new chair of the dept.  Then I saw my friend Gion who's directing CANDIDE in April.  I think I may try to get back for it.  After that, a session with a small group of students, but I had a good time and I think they enjoyed themselves.

The Macbeths left today for vacation.  My brother neither stopped by to check on my dad nor called him to say goodbye before they left.  My dad was hurt and I am not happy about it.  No, I am not happy.

Shame on you, Elmore!  Make her read the book!  but, of course, if anyone knows the Arthurian myths, they all know they are one big dying fall...and it ends badly for pretty much everyone.

From elmore:

DR Jane, they don't ALL die in the end of the book, but the Arthurian legend doesn't end very happily for anybody.

;D ;D I kind of figured this out for myself, just was wondering how this book ends.

DakotaCelt thanks for the offer of the pages but it isn’t necessary.

For the 1st time in my life I’m finding I can’t get any reading done, I just fall asleep after a few pages.  Not just this book but everything, so….I’m not reading anything except puppy books, for now anyway.

MBarnum-Since I can’t find my autographed photo, I’m beginning to doubt my memory that Darryl Hickman was my father’s patient.

I did find a autographed photos from two other child actors.  One is signed “To Doc Wagner from Dennis Joel”.  He was a cutie.  The other from Paul Playdon (Daniel Boone) to me, only he reversed my first name & middle name, not sure why he even had my middle name.

I found autographed photos to me from three hunks, Jack Kelly, Clint Walker, & the one I had a crush on…
”To Jane
Best Gal
Ty Hardin
Bronco”

I then found my missing Hoppy autograph, no photo, just on a piece of paper.

If only my missing Fury autograph & my cherished post card from Davy Crocket had been saved with these.
