ROMANCE ON THE HIGH C'S
« on: February 13, 2005, 12:02:26 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes have put you in a romantic frame of mind, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home with Cupid's arrows firmly embedded in their butt cheeks.

May I just count the ways that I HATE STUPID AOL?  At two minutes to twelve it decides to be completely retarded once again - can't get to any websites.  I have to completely re-paste in the notes via Safari, and then completely redo the first post in the new topic on the discussion board.

Irma Bombeck was never bombastic.

Bombastic!  Sounds like something from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" ... at least, the stage production.

I tried looking up that song on a Cy Coleman website, but was told the links weren't working.  It's three in the morning where I am, I don't care about the links, it's too damn dark to be playing golf and it's the middle of winter anyway.

But the upshot is that I'm unable to confirm whether Cy Coleman wrote that song.

I'm listening to Baker Street.  I think it's a delightful score...not absolutely fabulous, but I really like it.

DR Ginny--thanks for the congrats. I like the no-longer-a-newbie status.

DR Ben--I also love Uncle Nick's Greek Restaurant on 9th Ave. Of the 4 dips that you mentioned, my favorites are the tzatziki ( cucumber, yogurt, and garlic) and the one made out of eggplant--I think it's called melitzanosalata.
I really enjoyed The Musical of Musicals-The Musical! at the York Theater. I liked What If even more.

DR Hisaka--I'm not certain that it was "courage" that was necessary to sample those strange and exotic foods. It was, more likely, the folly of youth.

Tonight I attended the cabaret debut of Mr. Brian Stokes Mitchell at Feinstein's. He was wonderful, as usual, and performed an unusual jazz interpretation of MY FAIR LADY arranged by Mr. John Williams. He also sang "The Best Is Yet To Come" as a tribute to Mr. Cy Coleman, and "The Impossible Dream" as a tribute to Ossie Davis. I was surprised at how well "An Ordinary Man" worked in a jazz format.

George, I'm fond of WHAT A NIGHT THIS IS GOING TO BE from BAKER STREET.

Sorry, I was mostly errant and truant yesterday. Computer guy was here from about 3:30 to 11:00 PM getting rid of the whatever spyware hijacked my homepage.  All seems well now.

Tim Curry was invoked yesterday.  Mr. Curry is my neighbour.  He used to live just three doors up from me, then moved further afield into Los Feliz...but we would still exchange pleasantries at the grocery, local bistro, and where our walks intersected each other.  Last Spring he moved back into the neighbourhood, but since moving in he has been mostly on tour with Spamalot.  He's a lovely gent.

BK, you should wait to feel your oats on Valentine's Day; they'll be much more responsive.

I have had a BOMBASTIC tension headache exploding inside my noggin.  I must now answer the banshee yawn of the Wild wooly Wussburger and hope it will subside.

And on that note (f-flat), I take my leave.  Sunday morning is the only morning of the week that I get to sleep in.  So I have to sleep when I can.  Good night all!

I tell you, if it isn't AOL it's Adelphia.  I'm convinced that they just shut down after midnight to do work, but never acknowledge it.  Damn them, damn them all to hell.

My bedtime dance shall be the PACHANGA!

Amazon says "Poor Everybody Else" was indeed composed by Cy Coleman and says it is a song from SEESAW.  But a song of the same title was sung by Lucy and Red Skelton in a Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour "Lucy Goes to Alaska" around 1959 or so.....so that's weird.  If it's the same song - Mr Coleman must have had it in his trunk since then.  Mysterious.

The television shows sound divoon!

The Hollywood Palace was usually hit and miss - but when it was good - it was more fun than Ed Sullivan!  I think I saw Moms Mabley first on the HP!

I would like to hear some about some variety show songs and/or skits that the DR's remember fondly - or what shows you watched regularly when you were growing up.

Quite possible.  But then, considering that Lucy's daughter toured in the national company of Seesaw, the more reasonable explanation is that Lucy and Red somehow gained access to a time machine.

Not that I want to sound BOMBASTIC or anything.

And, My Dear DR Swoody, what were you doing up at three o'clock in the morning?

Unfortunately none of the Lucy sites give music/lyrics credit.

I watched an Australian movie “Center Stage” this afternoon. It’s a story of young ballet dancers. I was really impressed with the brilliant dancing of these actors and actresses in it. They DO excellently not only classic ballet, but modern dance.  I know there’re many good talented actors and actresses in Australia, and good movies.  Is that movie popular there in Australia? This question is for maybe DR OZDEREK and DR TOMOVOZ. How do you like it? :)

Nope, not always. He guest starred on one of the LAW & ORDER shows this season and played the part perfectly straight and solemn. He is a fine actor when he reins in the mannerisms.

Jerry Van Dyke did his Lone Ranger skit twice on THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW during his brief tenure there as her co-star. It was hilarious then, too.
