While I didn't love Ray, I did like it better than Kinsey.

I am, well, "happy" isn't the word, but I'm whatever I am to see that DeLovely and Beyond the Sea got no nominations that I could find.  Am I right about that?

Hmmmmmmm.....well I shall have to consider those nominees.  Perhaps they were hedging their bets and will vote for Mr Foxx as "supporting" actor and ignore his "lead" nomination....ala Jessica Lange who was awarded a "supporting" statuette for TOOTSIE and nominated and lost the "leading" award for "FRANCES" to Meryl Streep in SOPHIE'S CHOICE - a well-deserved win.

Happy Birthday JULIANA MILLIE HANSON!

What a lovely theatre that looks like...I also love Mr Steve Landesburg....did he play Harry the brother?  He must have, that's the only other "male" part.

Yes, he played Harry.

It's interesting that Paul Giamatti was ignored for Sideways.

I'm disappointed that Bryce Dallas Howard didn't get a nom.

As the old Universal Pictures used to say:  A Good Cast is worth Repeating:

Thelma Ritter:
"Go ahead, you'd be doin' me a favor."  "Overtrumped.  Don't send a baby to buy the beer."  "Look at that crowd.  Where I come from that's either a revival meetin' or a crap game."

Agnes Moorehead mentioned by DtM:
"I'm going to take your temperature - one way or the other."

Paul Lynde:
"I was married in satin."  "I'm not having my daughter kissed by that.....that wiggler!"   "I could tear my tongue out!"

So many others already mentioned...but I will add Florence Bates, Isobel Elsom, Mary Astor, Marsha Hunt, Ann Doran, Doris Dowling (natch) and Laura Hope Crews.

[I will omit Miss Allison Hayes who was mostly second leads].

Phil Carey, Whit Bissell, Dave Willock (apm), Strother Martin, John Fiedler, and Charles Meredith.

Is this the same Phil Carey who has been playing Asa Buchanan on ONE LIFE TO LIVE for lo these 25 years?

RE: BK's question about Oscar nomination omissions.  Nicole Kidman.  Paul Giamatti (for Leading Actor in SIDEWAYS).  Farenheit 9/11 for Best Picture (apparently Michael Moore campaigned hard).

Here's a blurb about the surprises and omissions:

They mention: Paul Giamatti, Clint Eastwood, Alan Alda,  VERA DRAKE,  PASSION OF THE CHRIST, KINSEY.

Good Afternoon!

Nice morning so far.  I didn't sleep in much.  Did my workout - definitely feeling the burn today.  Had my breakfast.  Read the paper.  Then cleaned myself up, and now I'm here.

As for the Oscar noms...  Interesting.  Very interesting.  I really was hoping that "A Home At The End of the World" would have at least received a nom for Best Adapted Screenplay.

When do the Independent Spirit noms come out?

Not yet. Won't likely be out until 2006, I would guess.

Miss Hayes is looking awfully Susan Hayward-ish in this week's pic, I think.

After I asked my question about Phil Carey (charmingly answered by DR JRand), I realized that the daytime dramas are rife with character actors, some of whom were leading players in their earlier careers.

The late Ruth Warrick, Eileen Herlie, James Mitchell, David Canary, and of course MacDonald Carey are just a few that come immediately to mind.

Then there are those who are daytime drama stalwarts, but who still do some mighty fine acting:  Marilyn Chris, Sally Gracie, Nancy Pinkerton all hail from one of One Life To Live's heydays.

Do we know our character actors or what?

The sun is trying, oh, yes, it's trying to break through the overcast skies.

I am very happy Clint got an acting nod.
