The Manhattan Transfer - "Vibrate"

The Bill Charlap Trio - "Somewhere - The Songs of Leonard Bernstein"

ZANNA DON'T (OCR) - Finally listened to this one - had it about a year. Fun listen. Lots o' words!

ANNIE (OCR) - Finally listened to this one too! -Had it for about ?? years. -This is part of my "project" to start listening to the CDs in my collection I haven't listened to...

Ian Bostridge - "The Noel Coward Songbook" - Interesting disc. And Mr. Bostridge's "classical" style suits the material well too. -And great liner notes with pictures from some of the original productions.

CAROLINE, OR CHANGE (OCR)

Christine Schafer (soprano) and Graham Johnson (pianist) - The Songs of Robert Schumann, Vol. 1 - What a very nice recital of Schumann's later - and considered problematic - songs. As with most of Mr. Johnson's releases on Hyperion, his liner notes are extremely informative and exhaustive! -I would love to see this man's library!! He researches each and every song... So, there were about 500+ in his complete Schubert series... About 300+ in this Schumann series... Plus his discs of Debussy, Durey, Tchaikovsky, Hahn, Duparc, Britten, Warlock, etc., etc., etc.. Boggles the mind!

Seasonally speaking:
George Winston - "December"
-Plus some other discs which I will most likely put on in the next few days. -I got a nice Christmas sampler from Williams-Sonoma during their post-Christmas clearance - great selection of vocals.

DVDs - I have a bunch on deck - including a Bollywood one. Just haven't had the time to watch any this week so far... Maybe this weekend...

We played Apples to Apples yesterday evening and one of the girls who lives here at church with me got reindeer antlers as part of our gift exchange we had the evening before. The person who is normally called the judge in the Apples to Apples was by special decree called Prancer instead of the judge and had to wear the reindeer headband. It was quite hilarious and made Apples to Apples even more fun than usual! :-) All of BK's talk about reindeer in the column made me think about that.

DVD - Bugsy Malone, Hong Kong Region 0 import
...Alright, I have to admit... This is a Christmas present for my sister, which arrived this afternoon, but I had to make sure that it truly did play in Region 1 machines, didn't I???

VCR - I think it's still the most recent episode of Amazing Race, but I ended up being able to watch it when it was on, so the tape will not need to be viewed at all

I've always been a fan of the Hallelujah Baby! score - especially "My Own Morning," "Being Good" and "When the Weather's Better" - all beautifully sung By Sally Mayes on her Comden and Green CD, "Our Private World."

And Hilary Knight's poster for that show is one of the best.

Of JAMAICA, ST. LOUIS WOMAN, and HALLELUJAH BABY - Lena Horne turned down starring roles in the second and third - I think the lead's songs are weakest in JAMAICA.

and speaking of Bollywood movies, I popped one into my DVD player and it wouldn't play. So I popped it into my computer and it played...then I tried to pop in another DVD into my computer and it wouldn't play...it seems that the Bollywood movie (that would not play in my DVD player) somehow changed my region code settings on the computer and now it won't play region 1 movies! And I can't figure out how to fix the darn thing!!!

I was not surprised by the outcome. But I was not happy with it.

Especially how Trump went into the audience before making his decision. It was very obvious to me who most of those people were going to support.

I felt like Chris (one of the cast) was right when he said they really nailed jen.

And even with all that, it still seemed like Trump wanted to pick her. I really don't think he liked kelly (especially considering his speech at the end saying "i don't really know if you can lead"). Wow, what confidence!

Wanted to comment on DR Matthew's question to DR Jose about HALLELUJAH, BABY! winning the Tony:

The 1967-68 Broadway season went down as one of the worst in history. Almost every musical introduced that season flopped and flopped badly. The two most successful musicals - GEORGE M! and HAIR both arrived at the end of the season and after Tony eligibility had expired, so they were lumped in with the shows for the following season. Had either of them been able to compete in 1968, HALLELUJAH BABY would not have won the Tony.

Its competition was THE HAPPY TIME, HOW NOW DOW JONES, and ILLYA DARLING, all flop musicals. THE HAPPY TIME won the direction, choreography, and Actor Tony Awards. DOW JONES won for its supporting actor, and ILLYA won nothing. I personally think THE HAPPY TIME had the better score, but that year, they didn't give a separate score award. The authors of the Best Musical automatically won a Tony. Oddly, in a career of fabulous stage scores, this was composer Jule Styne's only Tony win.
