Re: The Amazing Race

Charla and Mirna were my favorite team.  I know some people didn't like Mirna.  But I thought she was very nice to her cousin.   And I also thought she was extremely smart.

Most of the other women on the show right now, seem weak.  But Mirna was always pushing the limits and trying to find ways to win.

It really bugged me how all the other teams tried to gang up on her.

The only way they ever did anything was when they realized Mirna was gone.  How many times did we hear teams say, "where is mirna?" only to realize that she was off making new reservations some where.

I also dislike colin.  And thankfully in the preview it looks like they want to arrest him. :)

What a baby he was in the eating contest.

Did I reveal my ignorance by saying "record player" instead of turntable? For some reason, the term "turntable" is not in my vocabulary. I always refer to it as a record player -- which, I guess, technically it isn't. Oh well. I'll try harder next time, I promise.

RE: BB

I actually like Adria and Natalie.  Although I think Adria made some very poor choices this week.  I believe she didn't want to nominate Cowboy.  But she should have discussed her noms with Girl Power.  I get why Jen/Karen/Will are mad at her.

Although I'm really not liking Will anymore.  He's really turning into a brat.

I am a big fan of Y&R, so I'm trying to decide who I'd like to see on that show.

I think Will would be funny (assuming he doesn't get voted out this week).

Cowboy and Jennifer would be weird.

Maybe I'll vote for Adria or Drew.

It would be funny if both twins could appear.  Now that would be really a hoot, since they people they will be appearing with are Michael and Phyllis (who are a real hoot themselves).

Who will you guys vote for?

Re: BB5 -- I'm going to be a bit different and say I choose Will.

Marvin has the better chance at exacting a plan of revenge.

If Marvin wins HOH, I feel certain he'll solidify things with Karen and Jennifer; Drew and Diane would probably fold into his plan, too.  I think he'd put up both twins and tell them it's time for them to step up to the plate and show folks what they're made of (which is what Adria told Marvin and Will).

Diane is a deceitful little thing...she sees Will for the threat he is to all of them and I'm sure she wants "likable" folks to be gone.  That's her only chance to succeed.

Whoever goes tonight will enter the jury pool.

Whoever goes tonight will set the tone for how the voting will go at the end.

Neither Marvin nor Will is likely to support Adria or Natalie in the future.

I think Adria cut her own throat...and I can't help but wonder, slack-jawed and agape, at who the hell she thinks she's been kidding with er pre-veto-selection  double-talk she spewed about being willing to use the veto on either of the guys if only they would talk to her and prove to her they wanted to stay.  Her logic is amazingly dull-edged and warped.

And she's totally stupid to think Drew and Diane are allies...they'd slit her throat if she gave them a chance (and she's made a step in that direction with her nominations).

Re: Big Brother, I think Drew and Diane were her allies (in the all twins alliance).  But diane keeps changing her mind back and forth!

I believe that Cowboy wants to vote Will out (and I thought he hated Marvin).  It will be interesting to see if Drew follows him.

Thanks to Forry J Ackerman of Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine, I am too pre-freaked-out to watch Freaks.  I remember reading articles of his in which he would go on and on about how it was THE most disturbing movie that he had ever seen, and coming from Ackerman that carries a lot of weight.  I'm afraid that if buy the DVD that it will just sit up on the shelf, unwatched and taunting.

I forgot another LP that I would never let go:  My SWEENEY TODD set, autographed by Miss Lansbury and Mr. Cariou.

Hey!  I have one of those, too.  What a co-inky dink.  (Or maybe not.)

Good Morning!

After staying up late last night, I let myself stay in bed a bit longer than has been my usual lately this morning.  -Boy, that sentence is kind of convoluted! ;)  -Besides, it's not like I had to be anywhere this morning...

However, I have been taking some time this morning making a second pass through my pile of bills and other mail I got yesterday just to make sure I didn't overlook something.  Thankfully, I didn't miss anything, and I was able to get some advance organizing and planning done.

Well, that's about it for me for now...

OH!  Did any other DR catch the footage of Michael Jackson on his way to the court house yesterday?  He was accompanied by his two sisters, and, I swear, it looked like Janet Jackson's "shades" were actually "blinders".  I thought she was wearing a sleep mask!  -And from the way she was holding on to Michael and being guided by the bodyguard behind her... Hmm....

-Just a random observation...

Just received word that my brother Jeff is leaving for Iraq on Sunday. He works for the federal govt in Portland and was over in Iraq for about 6 months last year working as an engineer (which is what he is for the govt.). Anyway, he has  volunteered to go back and help out some more (rebuilding govt buildings and bridges). Our family is not very happy about his decision, but I understand it. He wants to be able to help out both our country and the people of Iraq, who he had a chance to get to know when he was there last...however, it was slightly safer over there last time he went!

I am proud of him for doing this, but sure wish he wasn't going...my nephew Jeffrey (brother Allen's son) is already over there with the National Guard and my cousin Bobby is over there with the Army (although I think Bobby is actually stationed in Saudi Arabia).

Good vibes to all your family stationed overseas.  May they all return home safe and sound.  And soon.

I don't say this to be an alarmist, but because I think you should acknowledge the danger your brother is facing:

If there is anything that you want to say to your brother, face-to-face, that you've never said, or that you would regret never being able to say again, do it before he leaves.

If it was a swimmer, I think you'll find the DQ has been overturned and Gold has been restored to him.

I reiterate:

A DQ that stripped a swimmer of gold today has been OVERTURNED, and that swimmer now has the gold.

If that's not the event you're referring to, I haven't found any news on it yet.

Dan (the man) the picture with Forry - a childhood hero, if that's what you want to call the man who made me a "monster baby" - was taken the last weekend in June of this year at the Day's Inn in Butler, PA, home of the Monster Bash.

I'm not sure I understand--exactly what kind of power does Dairy Queen wield over the Olympics?  As far as I know, they are not even a sponsor.

Speaking of Dairy Queen, I never go there.  But there is one beside a dollar store I go to.  And DQ has these ads in Canada (not sure if you guys have them too) for a brownie blizzard.  Well I just had to try one.  Very good!

First, no one is attending.

Then, the guy in the tutu jumps into the pool.

Now, there are Drag Queens stripping in Athens!

What have these games come to????

Did someone say GOLDEN BOY had two different issues with Sammy Davis re-recording his solo numbers? If not, he did. I never had the original issue, just the reissue. (Never been one of my favorite Strouse scores, though I know others love it.) It's VERY odd to hear him sound so good in the solos and so raspy on the ensemble numbers.
