Ouch! I just checked my IRA; it's dropped $2000.

I'm afraid to check my mutual funds.  Too depressing.

Wasn't igloo the V.P. for many years under Nixon?

Until it got to hot for him and he became Watergate.

In 3-5 days I will have new glasses! My new optometrist was a young man with an Italian last name who would have had DR MBarnum returning once a day for any exam he could imagine. I have no idea what became of the optometrist I saw last time.

I also had a good time at the NYPL and I'm back home to transfer what I learned to my computer filesvon BABES IN TOYLAND and LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40.

When you go back to get your glasses, please take Jose with you.  That way, at least we will have a photo of the Eye-talian doctor.

Amy: We've agreed to a moritorium on talking politics here at HHW.  You may have missed that.

I'm glad she didn't know, she makes me laugh.

Hi all.  It's been a rough couple of days for me.  I really didn't realize it but when Monday rolled around, I realized that hadn't really spoken about Bear's death to anyone--I mean with my voice.  I didn't call Thelma because I hate to bother people.

You have no idea how hard that made it to tell the folks at work what had happened.  I kept breaking down.

And then when I got home last night it was so hard to put the key in the door with no Bear on the other side.

Sheena is taking it all in stride.  She's taken over Bears bed already.  I always thought she was used to being an only dog.  I don't think she even knows or cares that he is gone.

Well, I guess the good news is that my job is safe--at least until next year when the budget process starts all over again.  This did help me  learn that I'm in the middle of pack so unless something really bad happens, I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Here's an item of interest in today's staff newsletter:

RETIREMENT:  Virginia Palmer, Grants Specialist, full-time, Adult Services Division, Main Library, effective December 31, 2008 after more than 11 years of service.

My heart-felt congratulations, Ginny.

And yes, yesterday did wipe out a large junk of my retirement funds.  The good news is that I still have a job.  The bad news is that Ginny and I will not get to frolic together in retirement meadows (And don't go there!).

I am wondering if the composer of the new KRITZERLAND release is the composer of the score of CAT WOMEN OF THE MOON.

Remember I was gone for many days, so I may have missed a lot of guesses, I am reading clues for the first time today.

DR Amy, I hope your intention was to discuss the pathetic economic situation with humor.  I certainly needed the laugh as I'm very down about the "bail out" that is likely to pass.

I had a really terrible experience during a screening of the original THE GODFATHER, so I have never really been able to watch it, or any of the sequels.  I shall try since so many DR's and MR BK give it such high marks.

I shall try.

Things are getting bad.  I know I put 88 cents in the change bowl last night, but this morning there was only 56 cents to take out of it.

However, like it or not, without the bail out credit as we know it will cease to exist.  Even car loans and home loans could disappear.

I honestly believe the bailout is only going to extend the pain, and possibly make it worst in the long run.  Remember the same people are writing this that have been screwing things up that last few years & the same people who have been insisting everything is fine.  I would feel much better if the  large community of financial experts protesting this had a voice in the bailout plan.

On a cheerful note I hit the jackpot in the mail today.  Since the book BAD MONEY was sold out everywhere here Keith ordered it from Amazon last week.  It arrived today, along with a book I have been wanting, MAN IN THE QUEUE, by Josephine Tey.

Craig’s package of chocolate Kandy Kakes also arrived.  They only took 11 days to get here from Pittsburgh.

Another package of good German chocolate arrived from Pennsylvania, marzipan, chocolate covered almonds (the small sweet kind) & another chocolate bar.  I know the marzipan will be delicious & the milk chocolate almonds are the best I have ever had.

Unfortunately we are experiencing hot, slightly muggy weather.  The chocolate bar felt like pure liquid & everything else was very, very soft.

Sending you strength vibes, DR DANISE....

And another round from Rehoboth.

Sheena probably is feeling Bear's absence.  It will show in the odd chuff, a gazing around the room knowing he isn't there, that wandering around to catch his smell.  Dogs recover a lot faster (usually) from losing a loved one.  But at the same time, I would expect her to become much more posessive of you in the weeks to come.  You are who she has.

In case I didn’t explain myself well, I am not against a bailout plan.  I’m against the one that is out there.  There are other options that have been ignored which I believe are far superior.

I'd better log off.  Dinner is ready (a casserole of ground beef, chiles, olives, onions, tomatoes, cheese, and egg), and work will be coming 'round early tomorrow.

Hasta.
