Rita Rudner's old joke was that when she was working in Broadway shows, she didn't know anything about finances.  She used to endorse her chex "Love, Rita."

As he picked up his hammer and saw.

The Sweet and Salty I had was the trail mix.  I didn't know the others existed.

I like the Honey Nut variety.  And then add chocolate chips to it. ;)

Your TV must not have a built-in digital tuner, then, because if it did, you could watch without the satellite as long as you had rabbit ears attached to that built-in tuner.

Well, maybe Jane lives is a reception area like ours - there is no rabbit with ears long enough to pull in broadcast TV. We are is such "commune" with nature, we can't even get satellite (and have to walk out to the road to have any hope of cell-phone voice reception.)

I am curious to know, and this not an Ask BK Day question, does anyone have any thoughts regarding Sen McCain's suspension of his campaign in order to focus on the Economy?

Well, with the country in a declared national emergency which congress is frantically attempting to address, for an elected representative of the peole NOT to be at his desk would seem the height of irresponsibility.

It's nice not having a tv sometimes.

Yes,  but it's also nice to have a connection to the rest of the world.   ;)

Especially if his economics ideas only contribute to more of the same bad policies that the Bush administration has instituted over the past seven years.

The American people,  though, are who Congress is considering now.  Americans all over are furious over this "bail-out" and want some folks to pay for shoddy mismanagement.  For me, this includes the people who bit off more than they could chew and assumed mortgages they could never hope to pay when the interest came due.

There is a lot of talk about helping out the beleagured homeowners facing foreclosure, but I can't afford to buy half the house that many of them also could not afford, but on which they are defaulting.  And I'm supposed to help bail them out because they made stupid decisions?  I think not.

I'm sick of picking up the tab for bloated corporations like the insurance companies that did NOT have to pay for  Katrina damages because Uncle Sugar stepped in.  What the hell are we paying premiums for if the companies cannot come through when they are needed?

And who is going to regulate stuff?  Deregulation has been the bane  of our economy for many years now.  If the government is going to sell out futures into fiscal bondage, the least it can do  is  ensure diligent oversight and making everyone involved toe thel ine.

There is general (read Congress, Bush, Obama, McCain) agreement that implementation of the bail-out requires a special oversight.

I'll grant you that those who bit off more than they could chew do not deserve a bail-out; however:

If all "those above" default on their mortgages we will end up with a real-estate market flooded with re-pos and a banking industry in melt-down (if the bad loans were individually held by the original lender banks we might adopt a "tough luck" attitude to the bank; however, the tainted paper has been repackaged into a variety of different financial products which are now held by all sorts of entities, including public employee  and individual pension plans.

Instead of simply evicting the half-dead beats and ending up with no income, a non-marketable property, and a family now dependent on the state for housing, we might be better off working a deal to leave the owners in their homes, collect what they can afford, and attach a property lien to be repaid at time of future sale.
