I have to say, I was never a fan of Al Gore when he ran for President.  Too many lock boxes for me.  I wasn't a Bush fan then (And never became one) and predicted before the election that the economy would go to hell and we would go to war in Iraq. People laughed at me and said I was over reacting.  Go figure.

I don't know what would have happened had Gore been President.  I'm not as idealistic about it as DR Noel.  Congress is always the major problem - they have more control over a lot of things than the President.  Things would be different, better? I would hope so, but you just doing know.

Everyone in my family has conveniently forgotten the things I predicted would happen with Bush in office.  When he got permission from Congress to send troops to Afghanistan, I made it a point to tell them it would end up in Iraq under false pretenses.

Of course, everybody in my family (back in South Carolina) watches Fox News 24/7, so it's no wonder they now scratch their heads trying to figure out how things went so wrong.

Sigh.

I will say after spending the last approximately 10+ years in federal court and dealing with the power of the federal government every day, I have grown more and more in favor of limiting the power of the federal government and returning it to the states.  I didn't used to feel that way, but the power and abuse of power on the federal level is really sickening.  This isn't totally a Bush problem. A lot if it started in the Clinton administration

Good Evening!

I'm back from La Cocina.

It was great spending time with fellow HHWers Ben and Larry, and my friends, Michael and Kent joined the partay as well. It was quite a wonderful time, and the conversation was sparkling and spirited at times.

My roommate, Jim, finally showed up just a few minutes after the group broke up.  He had originally texted me to tell me that he was leaving work at 6:00... And then he texted me again at 7:30 to say that he was finally on his way.  So, walked down to Grom and he bought me a cup of gelato.  :)

Back from a little grocery trip.  Got some more flavored sparkling waters, and some Kleenex and paper towels and a couple of light bulbs for the book room, which has been in darkness for a week.

That's a conundrum, plain and simple.  Under Clinton, he hoped the courts would back his decisions regarding social changes, such as allowing gays to serve openly in the military.  If that had ever had a chance, it would have hinged on the federal courts backing it up.

Along with whatever good might result, there is also a lot of bad.

I don't do this very often, but I would like to share...

I passed all four of my General Knowledge Exams towards my Florida Educators' Certification.

Next up is the Professional Teacher's Exam in October.

Finished the new Trijntje Oosterhaus aka Traincha CD - volume two of Bacharach material.  It's very good, but not as good as the first volume, which is brilliant.  There's some beautiful stuff here, it's all wonderfully interpreted and sung, and the arrangements are still by Pat Williams and Vince Mendoza - I suppose for me it's the choices of songs - I wish they'd not done quite so many of the newer ones and done some unusual earlier ones like Come And Get Me, which, as far as I know, has only been recorded once by Jackie De Shannon.

Welcome back, Jane.  Take care of yourself and your DH Keith.

Thank you.  At least our colds are much better.  On the trip up we went through a ton of Kleenex & disinfectant wipes. ;D

Dare I brave part two of The Andromeda Strain?  I guess I will, just to say I saw the whole thing.  For my little snack tonight, it will be ranch-flavored Quakes Rice Snacks.  I've grown very fond of these, and they're very low-cal and fat gram friendly.  There are five servings in a bag, so if you do the whole bag it's only 350 calories, which is fine since I ate under 1000 so far today - but I doubt I'll eat more than half the bag anyway.

Considering how much you enjoyed the first half of the movie, you are going to "love" the dramatic ending.
